What are the best SUVs you can buy now? See why the 2020 Subaru Outback, Forester, Crosstrek, and Ascent make the latest Consumer Reports top 10 list.
If you are shopping for a new vehicle, what are the best SUVs you can buy right now? According to a new study released by Consumer Reports, the Subaru brand should be on your shopping list. They scored the 2020 Subaru Outback wagon/SUV third best, the 2020 Crosstrek subcompact SUV is next at number six, 2020 Forester compact SUV is number eight, and the 2020 Ascent 3-Row SUV is number nine out of ten.
That’s a strong recommendation when Subaru vehicles score 40 percent of the models they say are the 10 Best SUVs You Can Buy Right Now. The 10 models had to score highest in four areas; performance, reliability, safety, and owner satisfaction.
The Japanese and South Korean models dominate the top 10 Best SUV list. The other models that score high are the Kia Telluride (#1), Hyundai Palisade (#2), Mazda CX-9 (#4), Toyota Highlander (#5), Mazda CX-5 (#7), and Ford Edge (#10).
The 2020 Subaru Outback wagon/SUV, 2020 Crosstrek subcompact SUV, 2020 Forester compact SUV, and the 2020 Ascent 3-Row family hauler all come standard with all-wheel-drive where none of the other top-10 vehicle’s do. They also come with 8.7-inches of ground clearance, which sets them apart from all others giving them off-pavement ability.
Consumer Reports ranks the four Subaru models high in reliability, and owner satisfaction. The Japanese automaker is also known for its EyeSight driver assist safety technology with all models scoring high with the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).
One other benefit the Subaru brand offers is they exclusively use the Boxer engine design no other auto manufacturer offers. The engine is “flat” and sits lower in the chassis. The benefit to drivers is that the all-wheel-drive vehicle, even though it sits higher off the ground, has a lower center of gravity.
It means the vehicles are less top-heavy and are more stable in corners and when making a quick lane change. You can make a small mistake in the 2020 Subaru Forester, Outback, Crosstrek, or Ascent and not get hurt.
