See why the 2021 Subaru Forester and Ascent scored highest in owner satisfaction across the most generations and said they would repurchase the same car.
If you are a Millennial, Gen-Xer, or part of the Silent Generation, the 2021 Subaru Forester and Ascent are cars that are satisfying owners in these age groups the most. According to Consumer Reports (by subscription), the Forester compact SUV and Ascent 3-Row family hauler performed well in its tests and appealed to buyers across the most generations.
How does CR know this? The Forester and Ascent scored high in the owner satisfaction survey and said they would repurchase the same car. The Subaru Forester and Ascent were two of the six vehicles that appeared in at least two of the four generational categories. Part of the reason is they are fun to drive, reliable, and deliver excellent fuel economy.
The Subaru Forester is most satisfying for Millennials (age 22-38) and the Silent Generation (age 70-80+). What is interesting, the Forester appeals to those on the opposite ends of the car-buying age spectrum. Those that are buying their first new vehicle and those who are likely purchasing their last car.
Forester appeals to a younger demographic who use the vehicle for commuting during the week and loading it up with gear to go camping, mountain biking, and off-pavement excursions to get away from civilization. They lead the most active lifestyles.
Forester appeals to the oldest generation for its standard all-wheel-drive, all-weather capabilities, and high crash scores. It’s easy to get in-and-out, has excellent outward visibility, and the Forester is easy to own.
The Subaru Ascent is most satisfying for Millennials (22-38) and Gen Xers (age 40-55). There’s no surprise here because the Ascent is the largest vehicle Subaru makes and appeals to families with young kids who need the extra room the 3-Row family hauler offers.
The Forester and Ascent have common characteristics that appeal to a broad range of SUV shoppers. They both come standard with all-wheel-drive, 8.7-inches of ground clearance, EyeSight driver assist technology, the highest crash scores, and fuel-efficiency.
The Forester compact SUV and Ascent family hauler hit a sweet spot that crosses generational lines. You can read our full review of the 2021 Subaru Forester trim levels here and 2021 Ascent here.
