The new 2017 Subaru Impreza compact is already getting top safety awards in Australia. How many stars?
The new 2017 Subaru Impreza is already picking up safety awards, and has scored a maximum five-star safety rating from the Australasian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP). This is ahead of its Australian release next week. The Impreza gets a new Global Platform that Subaru said would protect its occupants better than before.
It looks like the new Impreza architecture is as good as advertised by the Japanese automaker. All new-generation Subarus will ride on the new platform. Impreza earns the top ANCAP safety rating for crash protection and achieved a “Good” rating for pedestrian protection.
Impreza gets impressive five stars
Australia’s ANCAP is just starting to test new 2017 vehicles and the new 2017 Impreza is one of the first to earn five stars. “The release of these ratings sees a diverse spread of models meet the highest safety standards,” said ANCAP CEO James Goodwin.
Despite earning the top rating, ANCAP took a shot at the Impreza compact for lacking potentially life-saving autonomous emergency braking (AEB) and lane support systems (LSS) in entry-level models. Goodwin says, “It’s disappointing these technologies have not been provided as standard across their respective model ranges and for the safety of all road users we want to see an increase in the fitting of this technology.”
The 2017 Subaru Impreza is already picking up top safety awards and gets a five start rating from ANCAP in Australia. The model will launch down under next week. Subaru is planning on the new sedan and 5-Door compact to be a big hit around the globe. No pun intended.
