Subaru has been blown away by new 2017 Impreza orders in the first month. The hatchback is by far the most popular.

Subaru figured the all-new 2017 Impreza would gain lots of interest, but they didn’t expect it be this popular right out of the gate. Orders for the all-new Subaru Impreza in Japan have reached 11,050 units in the first month after its introduction on October 13. That more than quadruples the monthly sales target of 2,500 units.

Subaru says the new Impreza 5-Door hatchback is by far the most popular with 8,824 sales while the sedan has sold 2,226 units in the first month. That’s 4.4 times as many cars as the first month target Subaru had for the new Impreza compact. The factory in Gunma, Japan is producing them as fast as they can.

More than half switched from other brands

Another fact that is showing how successful this new 2017 Impreza will be, is the fact that Subaru says the compact is attracting new customers to the brand. The Japanese automaker reports 51 percent of the orders are coming from buyers who switched from other brands.

The new Impreza will give the Honda Civic, Toyota Corolla, Mazda3 and VW Golf competition for millennial buyers. The new Subaru compact is sportier and will have a fun-to-drive nature like the competition. That was Subaru’s goal when the spent $1 billion on its redesign. It gets new underpinnings which will change the driving dynamics. It’s got Subaru’s new Global Platform that will be the new architecture for every new Subaru in the next 10 years.

The new 2017 Subaru Impreza is already a big success as orders for the compact car in Japan more than quadrupled the sales target in the very first month. It’s due to hit showrooms in the U.S.later this month.
