The 2024 Subaru Impreza is an excellent compact hatch but still an underachiever. Check out the sales performance to start the new year.
How well is the next-generation 2024 Subaru Impreza hatchback selling in the new year? Subaru did an excellent job with the remodel, but it wasn't enough to move the new hatchback into the fourth spot in Subaru of America's lineup.
The remodeled 2024 Subaru Impreza compact hatch is still underachieving to start the new year. It could be because inventory is lower now. After all, the Impreza is now manufactured in Japan. It takes longer to ship from Gunma, Japan. The 2023 models were made in Lafayette, Indiana, and were more accessible to U.S. customers.
2024 Subaru Impreza by the numbers
The Impreza is the fifth best-selling model for Subaru of America. SOA delivered 2,255 compact hatchbacks to customers in January compared with 2,451 models in January 2023. Impreza dropped 0.8 percent to start the new year.
The Impreza compact hatchback isn't the only Subaru model down in sales in January. The Ascent 3-Row SUV (-18.9%), BRZ sport coupe (-24.7%), Crosstrek subcompact SUV (-10.9%), Solterra electric compact SUV (-24.1%), and WRX performance sports car (-41.6%) were also down.
What's next for the Impreza?
For the 2025 model year Impreza, there will be few changes in the second year of its life cycle. Subaru typically makes few changes, if any, in the second year. Look for the 2025 Impreza to get a slight price increase.
What is the price of the 2024 Subaru Impreza?
2024 Subaru Impreza pricing. The 2024 Subaru Impreza Base hatchback starts at $24,085, the Sport hatch starts at $26,085, and the all-new RS hatch with the 2.5-liter Boxer engine starts at $28,975. Pricing includes destination and delivery fees ($1,090).
MY TAKE
The 2024 Subaru Impreza is a good value for compact hatchback buyers in 2024. The Impreza comes standard with Subaru's excellent Symmetrical all-wheel-drive system, giving it all-weather and severe-weather capability. Unlike most small compact cars, the Impreza won't leave you stranded in a snowstorm.
Subaru designed the new Impreza RS trim level with the 2.5-liter Boxer engine upgrade for driving enthusiasts looking for performance, speed, and handling in an urban environment. All Impreza hatchback trims offer utility for carrying your gear and sports equipment, and the compact car is an excellent city commuter.
Why is the Impreza underperforming?
I've observed that when Impreza customers compare it with the higher-riding and more rugged 2024 Crosstrek subcompact SUV, they opt for the Crosstrek instead.

Love my 24 RS, but if im…
Love my 24 RS, but if im being honest the 2.5 engine needs to be standard across the board. Even that is just adequate. People need to remember that AWD add power loss to the wheels. So that 182HP in the 2.5 ends up performing like a fwd car with about 150HP. Take that same look at the 2.0 rated at only 152HP and that translates to a fwd car with 125HP. Its pathetic...!! It is below average for the class once you figure in drivetrain loss. Subaru awd is on full time as well. Not like the other companies that run in fwd mode unless the rear wheels are needed. That makes the subaru more capable but makes it lose mpg and power all the time.
