Automakers can tout how safe they are but this accident involving a 2016 Subaru Crosstrek shows why Subaru’s ads are more than hype.
You’ve seen the Subaru commercials touting the brand’s safety features, but when it happens in real life it’s a different matter. A 31-year-old Fort Collins, Colorado woman crashed her 2016 Subaru Crosstrek into a parked vehicle and the crossover rolled over on its roof. Both she and her child riding in the backseat were unhurt after the scary accident.
According to The Coloradoan, a Fort Collins newspaper, Jennifer Schwab, 31, was driving a white Subaru Crosstrek when she smashed into an unoccupied Saturn sedan. The impact from the crash was so severe that it caused the crossover to roll onto its side and roof. The Crosstrek hit a second vehicle that was then pushed into a third vehicle.
Luckily, the three parked vehicles were unoccupied at the time of the accident. Emergency crews were dispatched and the report says neither Schwab nor her child in the back seat were injured. Both were treated and transported to Poudre Valley Hospital as a precaution. Why didn’t they have any injuries?
Subaru’s safety system
We’ve reported on Subaru’s top safety rating many times. It’s these real life situations that show the effectiveness of Subaru’s safety system built into every one of their vehicles. It’s more than just airbags going off. Subaru uses a ring-shaped reinforcement frame in all their vehicles. It surrounds the passengers like a cocoon to protect them from impacts and roll-overs like this one.
Subaru’s structure increases cabin rigidity and absorbs impact energy from all directions even if it flips onto its roof. This is the safety design that kept Jennifer Schwab and her child in the backseat safe in their 2016 Subaru Crosstrek.
