It’s not all bad news for Subaru. The newly-refreshed 2021 Subaru Crosstrek is still the hot model for Subaru of America. See what Crosstrek just pulled off for the first time.
Subaru of America reported a disappointing sales loss of 30.0 percent last month, but there is a shining star for the Camden, N.J. automaker in a challenging year. The ongoing global microchip shortage hasn’t stopped customers from buying the refreshed 2021 Subaru Crosstrek subcompact SUV.
In September, the Subaru Crosstrek was the number-one-selling nameplate for Subaru of America, with 11,864 models delivered to customers. The Crosstrek beat the number one selling Forester by nearly 500 units. The Forester was second overall, with 11,366 sales in September.
The hot Crosstrek also beat the popular Subaru Outback with 7,082 models sold by a large margin (4782 units). It is the first time Crosstrek has been the number one selling nameplate for Subaru.
The Crosstrek also leads the top three selling SUVs through the first nine months of 2021. The 2021 Subaru Crosstrek is up 31.4 percent, with 101,067 models sold year-to-date, while the Outback is up 15.6 percent. The 2021 Subaru Forester is down -1.4 percent through the first three quarters of the year.
The Crosstrek dropped the smallest amount (-0.7 percent) with 11,864 sales last month compared with September 2020 sales of 11,950. The Forester dropped 27.4 percent, and the Outback had the most significant drop (-58.4 percent).
What is next for the 2022 Subaru Crosstrek?
Should customers wait for the 2022 Crosstrek? The 2022 Crosstrek, in the fifth year of its model cycle, will receive few changes. The 2022 Crosstrek could get minor changes with a new exterior color, new wheels, a shuffling of option packages, and possibly a slight price increase. There is no advantage for customers to wait.
The 2023 Subaru Crosstrek will be the model to watch as it will get a complete remodel. The next-generation 2023 Crosstrek will also get a new Crosstrek Wilderness trim level. You can read the full report here.
Through the first nine months of 2021, the all-new Subaru Crosstrek Sport is the hot model with the new 2.5-liter engine upgrade with 30 additional horsepower over the standard trim. It also gets the new dual-function X-Mode with more off-road capabilities.
Subaru of America bringing the new 2021 Crosstrek Sport trim level was a brilliant move by the Camden, N.J. automaker. The Crosstrek just landed at the top of the lineup in September to lead all nameplates.

I would buy one of those
I would buy one of those tomorrow if it wasn't for that undersized engine! 150hp base model scares me. Nothing good ever comes from a low HP engine!!
