Subaru is the #1 brand in America in ALG’s Residual Value Award. How do they keep doing it?
The Subaru brand is popular all over the globe, but it’s particularly got a loyal group of followers in the US. It’s keeping the value of a used Subaru at the top of the residual value awards again from ALG. They stack six of their all-wheel-drive vehicles on the top list. Only one from their lineup is missing. How does Subaru keep doing it?
Subaru beats Honda and Toyota in all mainstream automotive brand’s residual rankings. They also have six of their vehicles that are tops in the industry. They are the Subaru Forester SUV, Outback wagon, Crosstrek crossover, WRX performance car, Impreza compact and Legacy sedan. All beat the competition in their respective categories. The only car not topping out is the Subaru BRZ sports coupe.
How does Subaru keeping doing it?
Subaru has one of the lowest incentives in the industry. They do it by keeping inventory levels low, even slowing production so they can keep supplies low and demand high. It seems to be working because Subaru of America has logged 59 straight months of year-on-year U.S. sales growth through October.
Subaru is having growing pains as seen in some recent recalls, but it doesn’t seem to be hurting their resale value. ALG says, “Consistent product execution and practical sales strategies have resulted in back to back Residual Value Award wins for Subaru among Mainstream Brands.” If you are looking to buy a used Subaru Forester, Outback, Crosstrek, WRX/STI, Impreza or Legacy, you might want to buy new. The new models are just a few thousand dollars more in some states.
