Subaru has announced a special 2017 BRZ “GT” performance model for the Japan market. Do they have extra red paint to get rid of?
Subaru isn’t done yet with the 2017 BRZ sport coupe. They just announced a new red BRZ GT “special model” for the Japan market. Is it really all that special? The “new” BRZ GT doesn’t get anything the U.S. variant already gets. BRZ GT features performance upgrades similar to the Performance Package that can be purchase for 2017 BRZ models in the US. But this Japan BRZ GT comes with the extra performance equipment already installed. And it gets red paint on the exterior and interior. Does Subaru just need to get rid of some extra red paint?
What sets it apart from the standard BRZ?
It’s similar to the BRZ GT “Yellow Edition” they announced for Japan in Sunrise Yellow. Subaru says those 100 limited units have already sold out. Now Subaru offers it with a bright red exterior. What else sets it apart from the standard BRZ? Here’s the factory-installed upgrades it comes with. BRZ GT features SACHS Performance shock absorbers on all four corners for improved ride and corning stability. It also comes with red Brembo 17-in 4 pot ventilated front disc brakes and Brembo 17-in 2 pot ventilated disc brakes on the rear.
Also included in the package are special 17-in x 7.5-in aluminum high-luster alloy wheels. It also comes with a special red rear spoiler. Inside, BRZ GT gets Alcantara leather seats with a red BRZ logo with the front being heated.
All BRZs get upgrades for 2017
All Subaru BRZs have been upgraded around the globe and feature an improved suspension, stiffer chassis, added horsepower (5hp and 5 lb. ft of torque), refreshed exterior design, updated interior, standard LED headlights and taillights and a new track mode.
Now Subaru Japan announces the 2017 Subaru BRZ GT in Pure Red for performance enthusiasts in the home country. Subaru will begin selling these BRZ GT coupes on November 7, 2016. Subaru didn’t say how many of these “new” BRZ GT models in red they would produce. Maybe until they run out of red paint?
