When will Subaru introduce the 2023 Crosstrek Wilderness? Here is what we know about the rugged off-road SUV launch and upgrades.
Subaru of America introduced a new sub-brand of rugged, off-pavement Wilderness-badged Subaru SUVs. First, the 2022 Outback Wilderness, and now the 2022 Subaru Forester Wilderness just made its debut. Next is the 2023 Subaru Crosstrek Wilderness subcompact SUV. When will Subaru launch the all-new Crosstrek Wilderness?
Outdoor enthusiasts will have to wait for the Crosstrek to get the Wilderness upgrades. Sources close to Subaru revealed the automaker will wait for the next-generation Crosstrek coming in 2023 to launch the all-new Wilderness trim. Subaru of America will be the first to get the rugged 2023 Subaru Crosstrek Wilderness. The Camden, N.J. automaker will likely launch the off-pavement model in the summer of 2023.

The next-generation 2023 Subaru Crosstrek will get a complete remodel with new exterior styling and an upgraded interior. Still, the all-new Crosstrek may not get a new turbocharged engine option. With the 2022 Forester Wilderness powered by a naturally-aspirated 2.5-liter engine, Crosstrek Wilderness will also keep its 182 horsepower and 176 lb-ft of torque 2.5-liter four-cylinder Boxer.
Outdoor enthusiasts would like to see a third-generation 2023 Crosstrek offered with the 2.4-liter turbocharged engine option. Fans also wanted the Forester to get the FA24 turbocharged engine, but Subaru Corporation chose to use it only in the Outback and next-generation 2022 WRX models so far.

Subaru could decide to upgrade the Crosstrek's current 2.5-liter naturally aspirated Boxer engine with additional horsepower. But true to form, the Japanese automaker is tight-lipped about releasing any information on the outdoor adventure model.
Like Outback and Forester Wilderness trim levels, the all-new Crosstrek Wilderness will come with an advanced dual function X-Mode, elevated 9.2-inch ground clearance like Forester, standard front and rear skid plates, and an upgraded off-road suspension.
The Crosstrek Wilderness will wear 17-inch Yokohama Geolandar all-terrain tires and come with a full-size spare tire. The new Crosstrek will also feature a modified Lineartronic CVT automatic (Continuously Variable Transmission) and an upgraded rear differential.
The off-road-ready Subaru Crosstrek Wilderness is expected to make its U.S. reveal in the spring of 2023 when the Japanese automaker gives the subcompact a complete remodel in 2023. It now looks like the 2023 Subaru Crosstrek will not get an FA24 2.4-liter turbocharged engine upgrade.

If the upgraded rear diff isn
If the upgraded rear diff isn't a re-gear or a locker, Subaru shouldn't bother, IMO. An aftermarket locker is available for just a few hundred bucks, and an LSD doesn'treally cut it. A re-gear could potentially affect MPG too, unless they give the CVT more ratio spread, with taller highway gearing.
The new diffs are a re-gear
The new diffs are a re-gear though. And it's significant so of course it affects gas mileage. It's a 20% better ratio. As for the auto locker, they're not going to install a noisy, clucky diff in a new car
