Check out a new list of Subaru dealers charging well over MSRP for the most popular models like the 2022 Crosstrek, 2022 WRX, 2022 Forester, and 2002 Outback.
Wouldn't it be helpful for customers to know which new car dealers were raising prices well above the Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) before they bought a vehicle from them? Now there's a way because of a new website called Markups. Keep reading to find out if the Subaru dealer near you is one of the worst offenders.
According to a new Kelley Blue Book (KBB) report, the average Subaru transaction price across the U.S. dropped in July. New data released by Cox Automotive reveals the average price paid for a new non-luxury vehicle last month was $44,431, up $363 from June. The average price for a new Subaru was $35,372 in July, down 2.6 percent compared with June ($36,333).
That's the good news for new car shoppers, as most U.S. Subaru dealers are not charging way over MSRP for popular models like the Forester subcompact SUV, Crosstrek subcompact SUV, and Outback midsize SUV. But some Subaru dealers are still charging well over MSRP for the most popular models like the 2022 Crosstrek, 2022 WRX, 2022 Forester, and 2002 Outback.
A new report from Markups reveals the Subaru dealers with no markups and the Subaru dealers charging thousands of dollars over the Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price for the models that are hardest to get.
Here are the worst offenders charging well over MSRP and models they raised pricing the most. We have only included the dealers who charged more than $5,000 over MSRP. Many more charged between $1,000-$4,000 over MSRP.

Can a dealer change the price once you order the new vehicle?
A recent report from Consumer Reports says it depends on whether you signed a purchase order or put down a deposit. "With a deposit, the final price isn't carved in stone, so if the price changes before the dealer gets the car, the buyer doesn't have a signed contract and has to pay whatever the price is at that time. But a purchase order is a binding contract that the dealership has to honor," says the report.
Subaru of America does not condone charging its customers over MSRP, but it also can't keep its U.S. dealers from doing it. Subaru of America President and CEO Tom Doll recently asked its dealers to live by the Subaru Love Promise and treat customers fairly because of the new model shortages.
Doll says Subaru takes pride in NOT doing what a typical car dealer would do and giving new cars huge markups. He says it goes against the H.E.A.R.T. (honest, empathy, appreciation, respect, trust) pillars which is the foundation of the Subaru brand.
While some Subaru retailers are marking their new 2022 Crosstrek, 2022 WRX, 2022 Forester, 2002 Outback, and 2022 BRZ models well above MSRP, not all Subaru retailers do this. You can now find out and avoid the Subaru dealers that are.

This is child's play,
This is child's play, although the car salesman scumbag version, compared to what's happening to insistent Ford electric and hybrid truck buyers.
As the owner of Liberty
As the owner of Liberty Subaru in Emerson, NJ, I can tell you without question that we have NEVER marked any of our new cars up over MSRP. I'm not sure where your information comes from, but we should not be listed in this article. My email is above...I'm happy to discuss this with whomever is actually interested.
As always making things up.
As always making things up. Talk to Dan at Liberty Subaru and find out that they are NOT marking up their cars above MSRP.
Shame on Subaru dealers for
Shame on Subaru dealers for taking advantage of people in tough times they were asking 3k over on every vehicle across the board in dealership around in metro area. I am not going to buy from any dealership in future who went through this practice. Subaru should reimburse people or shut up. Sweet talk doesn’t mean anything. Cancel dealership license to ensure it won’t happen again.
Wow! If those 2002 Outbacks
Wow! If those 2002 Outbacks are still on the lot, jacking up the price isn't going to move them.
