The new Subaru Levorg BTTC cars get points in the first race. Where did the sports tourers finish?
It’s Subaru’s first attempt at the competitive British Touring Car Championship and they had a respectable first outing this weekend at Brands Hatch Indy. Team BTR did a good job of just getting the cars ready for the first race. They only had 86 days to get all four cars built before the first outing this weekend. The four Levorgs still hadn’t received their liveries as the cars arrived at the track on Friday night.
Turkington qualifies in 11th place
Subaru driver Colin Turkington qualified in a respectable 11th place on Saturday for the opening BTCC race of the 2016 season at Brands Hatch. The new Levorgs are still under development as Team BMR works out the handling issues. The team viewed this first race more as a “glorified test.” Jason Plato was the next best Levorg qualifying in 23rd, while James Cole and teammate Warren Scott finished 29th and 27th respectively.
On race day, Turkington battled hard and drove off the track in race two but came back to get points for the team. "We're learning every time we go out onto the circuit. You don't really which way to go because we're doing everything for the first time but we're making small steps forward and heading into the right direction,” Turkington told crash.net.
Team BMR is still developing the Levorgs
Jason Plato told BTCC Crazy, “Everyone at Team BMR deserves a huge amount of credit for what they have achieved here. To build these four cars and get them here running in the tail end of the points is superhuman. I have said all weekend that we weren’t concerned about results because it has been all about building up our knowledge and developing the cars.”
The team of four Subaru Levorgs finished in the points with Colin Turkington picking up 4 points and Jason Plato getting 3 points in the first race. James Cole and Warren Scott finished out the points at Brands Hatch Indy. It was a good start for the new Subaru Levorg BTCC race cars and for Team BMR. They don’t have much time to get ready for the next race. Next up will be April 16-17 at Donington Park. Stay tuned.
