The Subaru WRX and WRX STI will be the only two cars Subaru brings to NAIAS in Detroit. What does it tell performance fans?
Subaru will only bring two cars to the North American International Auto Show in Detroit January 14-22. Subaru doesn’t have any new models to bring to the Detroit Auto Show, so they will show off their high performance sedans, the WRX and WRX STI. They will only be getting refreshes for 2018, so there’s no news for the WRX/STI performance sedans. But the performance models tell us a lot about the brand.
Even thought the Forester, Outback and Crosstrek are the brand’s core sales leaders, and a new 3-Row crossover is coming to North America, Subaru will continue to feature their performance partner, Subaru Tecnica International (STI) in a big way in the future. STI will continue to show the brand’s all-wheel-drive abilities through their motorsports involvement in 2017. The Nurburgring 24-hour race, the new ARA Rally Series, and Red Bull Global Rallycross will be motorsports venues the automaker shows off the WRX STI.
WRX STI is a core value for the brand
STI’s motorsport technology filters down to Subaru’s entire lineup and it’s a big reason why Subaru won’t drop the WRX and WRX STI from the lineup. At the NAIAS in Detroit, Subaru will display their two performance sedans. It says a lot about the brand and what their core values will continue to be in the future.
It’s hard to find a better performance car bargain than the new-generation 2017 Subaru WRX/STI sports sedans. WRX starts at $26,695, WRX STI has a base price of $35,195. The 2018 Subaru WRX and WRX STI will only get minor refreshes, and they will still be the best performance car bargains on the planet.
