The all-new 2024 Subaru Crosstrek reveal is now just one day away. See why the next-generation Crosstrek is the automaker's most significant launch this year.
Subaru of America (SOA) announced that the all-new third-generation 2024 Subaru Crosstrek would make its North America reveal tomorrow at the Chicago Auto Show. It's a big day for the Camden, N.J. automaker, and it will be the brand's most significant new model launch this year.
Crosstrek enthusiasts had waited since September 2022 when Subaru Corporation first announced the next-generation Japanese-specification Crosstrek. Subaru of America chose to wait and uncover the new U.S.-specification Crosstrek until this year at the Chicago Auto Show.
Subaru teased two images of the 2024 Crosstrek, both Crosstrek Sport trim levels. Subaru says the next-generation Crosstrek will get new power upgrades. The Crosstrek Sport and possibly the Limited will be the models with a 2.5-liter engine to get additional horsepower.
Subaru did not announce how much additional power upgrades the all-new Crosstrek would get, but the current model produces 182 horsepower and 176 pound-feet of torque. It has 30 more horsepower than the 152 horsepower and 145 lb-ft of torque from the Crosstrek's smaller 2.0-liter engine, offered on all other trim levels.
We suspect Subaru will give the new Crosstrek about five to eight more horsepower but not more than 190 horsepower. Subaru could drop the 2.4-liter turbocharged engine in the new subcompact SUV, but it's not likely.
The Crosstrek is now Subaru of America's best-selling all-wheel-drive model in its U.S. lineup. The automaker is counting on the hot new subcompact SUV to bring in even more new buyers who have never purchased a Subaru vehicle.
A recent report from Automotive News gets insights from Jeff Walters, senior vice president of sales at Subaru of America. The Camden, N.J. automaker was at the Auto Team America Dealer/CEO/CFO Forum in conjunction with the 2023 NADA Show.
Walters says, "We just came off the last full year of the previous generation Crosstrek, and that car had its best year ever," at 155,142 sales in the U.S., Walters said. "From the Impreza five-door building up to the Crosstrek, when this production starts to come back, we can clock it, soak up some volume with these five doors, especially the Crosstrek."
The all-new 2024 Subaru Impreza hatchback arrives this spring, but the next-generation 2024 Subaru Crosstrek subcompact SUV will be the brand's biggest launch this year. It arrives tomorrow. Stay tuned to Subaru Report via Torque News for the U.S. specification 2024 Crosstrek reveal.
