Subaru announced a sales drop of 7.1 percent in February, but it’s not all bad news. Subaru has a few surprises.
Subaru of America (SOA) reported another sales drop because of the ongoing microchip shortages and supply chain issues that impact the availability of new models for its U.S. customers. Sales dropped 7.1 percent in February, and the Camden, N.J. automaker reports they delivered 44,866 vehicles to customers. But there is a silver lining and some good news.
Sales are on an upswing
Compared with January 2022, sales are on the uptrend. Subaru delivered 708 more vehicles to its U.S. customers in February than January. It’s not a significant uptick, but it’s a positive sign.

More top safety scores

The 2022 Crosstrek has its best February ever
The hot 2022 Crosstrek subcompact SUV was the top performer by volume in the all-wheel-drive lineup in February. Crosstrek achieved its best February ever with 14,476 vehicle sales. The hot Crosstrek was up 35.4 percent compared with 10,691 model sales in February 2021.

Ascent sales are up
The 2022 Ascent 3-Row SUV was a surprise. SOA sold 5,181 2022 Ascent family haulers to U.S. customers. New Ascent sales for February increased 12.2 percent compared with 4,619 models delivered in February 2021. Up until now, Ascent sales have been declining.
Impreza and BRZ sales increase
The 2022 Subaru Impreza compact sedan and hatchback model sales (3,520 vehicles delivered) increased 30.0 percent compared to February 2021 (2,708 vehicles sold). The all-new next-generation 2022 BRZ sports coupe sales for February 2022 increased 95 percent, with 349 models delivered to customers compared to the same month in 2021 (179 models sold).
Forester and Outback are down
Because of the new model shortages, the 2022 Subaru Forester (-16.5%), Outback (-31.8%), Legacy (-36.6%), and WRX and WRX STI (-98.2%) were down in sales in February compared with February 2021.
Subaru announced a sales drop of 7.1 percent in February, but there is some good news. The 2022 Subaru Crosstrek subcompact SUV has a record month.
