Here's what could come when the all-new next-generation 202 Subaru Crosstrek subcompact SUV makes its U.S. debut next week. The 2024 Subaru Crosstrek will have upgraded power, according to Subaru. Check out the report and see how much new power and what engines it could offer U.S. customers.

The all-new 2024 Subaru Crosstrek is coming next week, on February 9, and small SUV customers will finally see the U.S. specification next-generation Crosstrek subcompact SUV. Subaru says it will have upgraded power, but how much more horsepower will Subaru give the redesigned model? There are three possibilities for the new power upgrade.

Subaru says, "We're getting the 2024 Subaru Crosstrek ready for its U.S. debut at the Chicago Auto Show on February 9. The reveal will be streaming live, so sign up now to be one of the first to see the upgraded power, advanced technology, and enhanced safety of the all-new 2024 Crosstrek."

The second generation 2023 Crosstrek subcompact SUV is powered by the 2.0-liter Boxer engine and the 2.5-liter Boxer engine. The Crosstrek Sport and Limited get a 2.5-liter engine with 182 horsepower and 176 pound-feet of torque. It has 30 more horsepower than the 152 horsepower and 145 lb-ft of torque from the Crosstrek's smaller 2.0-liter engine, offered on all other trim levels.

When Subaru brought the new Sport and Limited trim levels with the more considerable engine upgrade, sales shot through the roof, and the Crosstrek had its best year ever in 2022 for Subaru of America. The small SUV was also the Camden, N.J. automaker's best-selling model in its all-wheel-drive lineup. Subaru of America knows the new 2024 Crosstrek will be an even bigger hit with active customers if it has more power and as long as it can maintain its fuel efficiency.

Outdoor enthusiasts will be attracted to the new small SUV with added power for use off-road and getting further away from civilization. There are three possibilities for the third-generation Crosstrek engine's power upgrade. The first option is Subaru could bump up the horsepower and torque in the 2.5-liter engine that powers the redesigned model. Subaru could easily upgrade the current powerplant and improve its efficiency.

The second option is Subaru could bump up the horsepower and torque in the 2.0-liter engine that powers the Base, Premium, and Special Edition trim levels. Subaru Corporation could improve the engine's efficiency and keep customers happy using the small SUV for city commutes.

The third option is Subaru of America could ask Corporate for a new Crosstrek with the FA 24 2.4-liter turbocharged engine that currently powers the Outback and WRX. Subaru could tame down the turbocharged engine with less than the Outback's 270 horsepower but more than the 2.5-liter's 182 horsepower rating. This is the least likely option as it would require more chassis and suspension upgrades for the new generation model.

Subaru will likely use the current 2.5-liter powerplant in the newly remodeled Crosstrek and upgrade its power rating. The added power would keep outdoor enthusiasts happy and require the least modifications to the next-generation subcompact SUV. It is probably in the range of 190 horsepower. Stay tuned, and we'll find out on February 9 when Subaru of America reveals the U.S. specification 2024 Crosstrek.

So the sweet spot for a vehicle of this size would be about 210-220 hp, so if they add power via Turbo or otherwise that's the figure I would aim for. Look at the release of the Corolla Cross Hybrid in other countries, it's got 194ish HP, and that makes it okay but few would say it's fun. Just 15~20 hp and you'll get a dynamic and fun vehicle.

This is what I have been waiting for. This is the perfect vehicle for my use case as long as the manual option remains.

I live in lake effect snow country - and commute on secondary roads for 65km each way.

Manual , awd and more than 200 HP are the sweet spot for me.

They need a smaller turbo. Subaru owners tend to like driving in the mountains and their naturally aspirated engines just don't have the torque to do it without making their still unproven CVTs strain.
