Subaru Shuts Down New Forester, Crosstrek Production Again

Subaru Corporation announced another plant closure that affects 2022 Subaru Forester and 2022 Crosstrek production.

Subaru Corporation announced today (April 26) that it would temporarily suspend production at its primary automobile manufacturing facilities in Japan again. The shutdown is because of interruptions in the supply of certain parts. The Subaru plant closure directly affects the refreshed 2022 Subaru Forester and the hot 2022 Crosstrek models for U.S. customers.

The new plant shutdown will be for two days, April 28 and April 29, 2022. Two Subaru manufacturing plants will be affected by the closure; the main automobile plant in Gunma and its other manufacturing facility in Yakima. The engine and transmission plant in Oizumi will also be idle for two days.

This week, the Subaru Corporation plant closure comes after four other plant shutdowns in 2022. The two plants were idle from January 28, January 31 through February 2, February 7 - 8, February 18 and 21, and on March 18 and 21 due to a major earthquake that struck Japan.

This latest shutdown is now the fifth time the plant has been idle in 2022 now for twelve working days.

The two-day loss of production will further slow the number of new cars available for U.S. customers. Subaru manufactures the refreshed 2022 Forester compact SUV and 2022 Crosstrek subcompact SUV at its Yakima plant. It makes the 2022 Subaru WRX and WRX STI performance sedans and 2022 Subaru BRZ sports coupe at its main plant in Gunma, Japan.

Subaru Corporation has not announced how many vehicles have been lost to the plant closures this year.

What does it mean for customers?

Customers in the U.S. will see even fewer 2022 Subaru Forester compact SUVs and 2022 Crosstrek subcompact SUVs available in showrooms this summer. Subaru of America shut off 2022 Forester orders for its U.S. retailers on March 7 and reopened them three weeks later. The 2022 Crosstrek orders were shut off for two weeks in March. You can read the complete report here.

Customers in the U.S. can still order a 2022 Forester, Crosstrek, and other models from a Subaru of America retailer.

During the new model shortages, ordering a new vehicle from Subaru and shipping from the factory is the customer's best option. Building the new car ensures you get the exact trim level, color, and option package you want and is a little-known method to save time tracking down a vehicle that fits your needs.

If you order a new Forester or Crosstrek this spring, it will take approximately four-to-six months to get the model through the pipeline and the backorders of the popular SUVs.

The new plant shutdown on April 28 and 29 will affect the 2022 Subaru Forester compact SUV and 2022 Crosstrek subcompact SUV production again. Stay tuned to Torque News via Subaru Report for the latest new model updates.

Fastory ordered a 2022 Crosstrek Sport through dealership (via Costco) the end of March with expected delivery June. Dealer texted me early April with revised delivery of May. I had already created my order on Subaru website and all I had to do was give the dealer my order number. Super easy. Naturally hoping this new shutdown doesn't affect my order!

Three weeks ago I ordered a Subaru Outback Wilderness. First it was due in the 19th of April, then it was the 22nd and yesterday I was told early May. I cancelled the order. This falls all on the CEO of Subaru who didn’t foresee supply issues

I ordered a Crosstrek Sport in early January, I was told about 3-8-22 delivery. I also noted there were shutdowns during my build period and was worried about delays. There were no issues and the car arrived 2-26-22. I love it, and was worth the wait and definitely better buying new, to my preference.

I'm happy I bought my '19 Forester when I did. It has lost a total of $2000 off the purchase price @ 46K mi. (assuming my "good'' condition withstands). For once cars' values aren't depreciating so fast.

We were lucky to intercept a delivery of the 2022 CrossTrek to another dealer. Plasma yellow pearl too. Hope there’ll be parts in the future.

I ordered a loaded Crosstrek Limited on January 21 and was told 8-12 weeks. It has been over 18 weeks and I was told that I might not get for a couple more months.
