Subaru of America recalls certain Subaru WRX/STI, Forester XT, Outback and Legacy GT models for potential fire risk.
The faulty air pump recall on certain Subaru WRX/STI, Forester XT, Outback and Legacy GT turbo models has reached the US. The issue is potentially dangerous and could cause a fire according to the NHTSA recall. All models being recalled are turbocharged and the only models that are affected.
What models are affected?
Subaru of America is recalling certain 2007-2009 model year Legacy and Outback (turbo models only), 2008-2014 model year Impreza WRX/STI and 2009-2013 model year Forester XT vehicles. A total of 100,127 vehicles are affected here in the US.
What’s the issue?
Due to inappropriate manufacturing process of the relay which controls the secondary air injection pump, the relay may allow the pump to operate continuously. If this condition were to occur, the check engine warning light illuminates and the pump may overheat and melt causing odor or smoke to occur and could possibly start a fire.
A Subaru spokesperson in Australia said recently that after a handful of incidents around the world, Fuji Heavy Industries released a product recall. It’s now reaching US models.
What should owners do?
Subaru will notify owners of , 2007-2009 MY Legacy and Outback (turbo models only), 2008-2014 MY Impreza WRX/STI and 2009-2013 MY Forester XT. Authorized Subaru dealers will replace the secondary air injection pump relay, free of charge. Subaru of America has not yet provided a notification schedule. Owners may contact Subaru customer service at 1-800-782-2783. Subaru's number for this recall is WTM-73.

Our Subaru forrester caught
Our Subaru forrester caught fire after being parked in the garage for almost an hour. Check engine light came on during drive home, just like the recall notice indicates for this problem. Spotted the fire due to a strange noise from the garage; at the time, only small flames from under the hood. Within the 10 minutes it took for the fire department to arrive, it had become a fireball, sucking gas down the line from the fuel tank, and engulfed the garage and got into the attic. Damage to my house was extensive. Be sure to have this repair done ASAP.
We were traveling cross
We were traveling cross country and had just got it looked at nobody made us aware of and of this and it overheated the last day and caught on fire with all of our belongings in it, leaving us stranded on the side of the road with nothing, watching our memories and everything melt away. Check for recalls always and get this fixed if you have these models.
