In a challenging year, the 2022 Subaru Impreza and Legacy are not the worst in sales performance. See which model takes the worst-performing crown.
It's been an extremely unusual year for Subaru of America (SOA). The 2022 Subaru Impreza and Legacy are not the worst in sales performance, and the two models are a surprise to lead the Camden, N.J. automaker in the worst sales performance category.
The 2022 Impreza is aging and needs a remodel, and the compact sedan and hatchback dropped 28.4 percent in sales in September compared to September 2021. SOA reported they delivered 2,626 Impreza compact cars to customers in September compared with 3,665 in September 2021.
Forester drops 40.0 percent in 2022
The Impreza is only down 0.9 percent through the first nine months of 2022. The surprise models are the Forester (down 40.0 percent year to date) and the Outback, which is down 14.3 percent in 2022.
Why do new car shoppers consider the Impreza?
The fuel mileage is one significant reason the Impreza is not the worst-performing model for Subaru of America compared with last year. Customers are looking for affordability, safety, all-wheel-drive, and fuel efficiency. The Impreza offers all four.

What's next for the 2023 Impreza?
The 2023 Subaru Impreza compact sedan and hatchback remain unchanged. The all-new redesign from the ground up will not come until the 2024 model year.
What is the price of the 2023 Impreza?
All 2023 Subaru Impreza trim levels get a $550 price bump, including destination and delivery fees (+$25). The Impreza comes in four trim levels and seven different models.

Destination and delivery ($995) are included in the prices above. Models with a CVT automatic transmission add to the prices above $1,300, depending on the trim level.
The Subaru Legacy is also not the worst-performing sales model. SOA reported it delivered 1,318 new 2022 Legacy sedans to customers in September, down 7.1 percent compared with September 2021 (1,419 sales). Through the first nine months of this year, SOA has sold 17,159 Legacy sedans, a drop of 8.2 percent compared to 2021.
What's next for the 2023 Legacy?
Subaru announced the 2023 Legacy sedan would get new upgrades with a redesigned front fascia, the latest version of EyeSight safety technology, and redesigned LED headlights. Subaru also updated Legacy's multimedia system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
What is the price of the 2023 Legacy?
All 2023 Legacy trim levels get a significant price increase over the outgoing model.
The 2023 Legacy sedan now comes in five trim levels. We have included the price increase on each trim after the new pricing. Even though the 2022 Impreza and Legacy sales have been dropping this year, the two models are not the worst-performing models in the all-wheel-drive lineup. Subaru says the 2023 Impreza compact sedan and hatchback and newly upgraded 2023 Legacy midsize sedan are available now for customers to order.

I have read that Subaru will
I have read that Subaru will phase out the Impreza for the Crosstek.
Is that true? Personally, the only reason why I would not buy a Impreza is that damn anemic engine.
