The Tokyo Auto Salon is going to be all-STI for Subaru. What 7 STI models will they bring?
Subaru continues to crank up the STI brand and it’s all-STI at the Tokyo Motor Salon next month. Subaru and Subaru Tecnica International (STI) announced what cars they will bring to the show in Japan. There will be three STI concept vehicles and four Subaru race cars from STI’s motorsport activities. The show will run from January 15-17 at the Makuhari Messe in Tokyo, Japan.
STI Performance Concept
At the Subaru booth, they will display three concept models, the STI Performance Concept, based on the Subaru BRZ sports coupe which was first unveiled at the New York Auto Show 2015. This will be the Japan premiere of the high-performance BRZ. The BRZ STI Concept pumps out 450bhp even though Subaru officially originally quoted power at 345bhp and 332 lb ft of torque. This is the vehicle that signaled STI’s expanded influence in the U.S. market. Performance enthusiasts were disappointed when they found out this BRZ will never make it to production.
XV Hybrid STI Concept
Subaru will also bring a XV Hybrid STI Concept that will feature a sportier attitude with orange-colored accents on the White Quarts Silica exterior paint. The interior also gets enhancements with orange and beige accents. It will also come with STI parts that Subaru says will improve its driving stability and will enhance its fun-to-drive character. Performance fans have been asking for a Crosstrek STI and this moves the brand in that direction. Fans still want a 2.0-liter turbo boxer under the hood.
Levorg STI Concept
The Levorg STI Concept comes with STI-designed 18-inch aluminum wheels, red-wine and black two-tone color interior features and exclusive STI-tuned dampers. Subaru says “exhilarating handling performance” has been delivered. The Levorg Sports Tourer is not sold in the U.S. and only available in Japan, Australia and European markets. The Levorg STI Concept will be another model U.S. fans can only look at and not touch.
Today, STI’s core business is supplying motorsport base vehicles and competition parts and planning and developing Subaru limited edition models. They develop the performance knowledge through their motorsport activities and then apply special tuning techniques as well as planning and selling accessories and tuning parts to Subaru’s production vehicles like the WRX and WRX STI.
STI’s motorsport cars
They will also display the new 2016 WRX STI Nurburgring 24-hour Challenge race car and the 2016 Subaru BRZ GT300 that runs in the SUPER GT series. STI will announce their 2016 Subaru motorsport activities at the show. The other two race cars at the Subaru stand will be the 2016 WRX STI Japan Rally Championship car and CG Robot Racing’s 2016 Subaru BRZ. It’s all STI at the Tokyo Auto Salon 2016. Stay tuned.
