Vincentric says Toyota has one model that is the best in the CPO segment. The only problem I see is that Toyota discontinued the Avalon two years ago. It's a great value, but where are the Toyota RAV4, Toyota Tacoma, Tundra, and Highlander?
The Toyota RAV4, Toyota Tacoma, Tundra, and Highlander are missing.
Vincentric, a highly respected authority in the automotive industry, has announced its Best CPO Value in America Awards for 2025. According to Vincentric, Toyota, a brand known for its reliability and low ownership costs, surprisingly has only one model from its extensive lineup that stands out as the best in its category.
With the cost of new vehicles rising, many Toyota customers are looking for a pre-owned model. In my report, I'll cover the Vincentric Best CPO Awards, a prestigious event in the automotive world, from a Toyota perspective that gives car shoppers an idea of what certified pre-owned models offer the best value and are the lowest cost to own.
"The Vincentric Best CPO Value in America Awards are designed to take the guesswork out of shopping for a certified pre-owned vehicle," said Vincentric President David Wurster.
Many consumers opt for a CPO vehicle to make a smart financial decision, saving money on the initial purchase price while still enjoying the peace of mind of a manufacturer warranty.
Vincentric says, "However, they may not know which models can continue to save them money into the future. Our awards can be used as a guideline to help consumers have confidence that their next vehicle purchase will deliver strong value, low ownership costs, or both."
Many customers are looking for a 3-year-old Toyota RAV4, Toyota Tacoma, Tundra, Highlander, and other models because of the price of new cars. What are your best value options, allowing you to make a financially savvy choice?
Vincentric says the Toyota Avalon is the Best Large Sedan.
Contributing factors:
- 2.6% below expected ownership costs
- Lowest Operating Cost in its Class
- Lowest Fuel Cost in its Class
- Lowest Repair Costs in its Class
- Outperformed 2 Competitor Models
Toyota stopped making the Avalon after the 2022 model year, but it's still an excellent choice for sedan shoppers.
Why did Toyota drop the Avalon?
Toyota focuses more on crossovers and SUVs, and the large sedan class has declined in popularity.
Enter the new Toyota Crown.
In 2023, Toyota introduced the new Crown as a replacement for the larger Avalon. The Crown, according to Toyota, is a superior alternative, offering updated features and innovative technology.
Toyota says, "We're saying farewell to Avalon. As the sun sets on our flagship vehicle, which has been discontinued, we welcome a rising star—the Toyota Crown. What's next is a generation of updated and innovative Toyota vehicles made to go places and carry on the acclaimed quality and value you've come to appreciate."
Will customers still be able to get reliable Toyota Avalon parts and service?
Toyota assures its customers that moving forward, the Avalon will continue to receive parts, service, and customer support.
Toyota says, "Moving ahead, your Avalon will still have the finest care and service available at your local Toyota Service Center."
How does Vincentric determine the best picks?
To determine the 2025 Vincentric Best CPO Value in America Award winners, Vincentric conducted a statistical analysis to reveal which vehicles had lower than expected ownership costs given their market segment and price.
Vincentric's analysis involved over 18,000 vehicle configurations and considered eight cost factors: depreciation, fees and taxes, financing, fuel, insurance, maintenance, opportunity cost, and repairs. The costs were measured after incorporating the specific CPO warranty offered by the manufacturer and applying the mileage requirements necessary to be authorized as an OEM CPO vehicle.
Each CPO vehicle was evaluated in all 50 states plus Washington DC, assuming each would be driven 15,000 miles annually over five years.
There's still the question. Where are the most popular models like the Toyota RAV4 compact SUV, Toyota Tacoma pickup, Tundra truck, and Highlander SUV?
The Nissan Ariya wins the Compact SUV award; Ford dominates every truck category with the Maverick, F-150 Lightning, F-250, and F-350. The Subaru Outback wins the best Midsize SUV, and the Ford Expedition takes the Large SUV award.
In the Vencentric study, the most popular Toyota cars, trucks, and SUVs do not have the lowest ownership and operating costs.
In my recent report, I gave every Toyota model five- and ten-year maintenance costs. The RAV4 is ninth on the list of Toyota models, the Highlander is thirteenth, and the Tacoma and Tundra are the seventeenth and eighteenth Toyota models with the highest maintenance costs.
However, the Toyota brand has the lowest 10-year maintenance costs of any car brand. Check my report here for my complete Toyota maintenance information so you can determine every Toyota model's overall cost and how they rank in each category.
Conclusion:
For its 2025 Best CPO Value in America Awards, Vincentric says the discontinued Toyota Avalon is your best CPO pick for a large sedan. However, the most popular models, like the Toyota RAV4, Toyota Tacoma pickup, Tundra truck, and Highlander SUV, are not on the list.
