Subaru of America should give its customers two new models with the 2.4-liter turbocharged engine. Here's what they are and why you won't get them.
What Subaru models come with the 2.4-liter turbocharged engine? The Outback midsize SUV and Wilderness trim level, the Legacy sedan, and the Ascent 3-Row family hauler were the first to get the new FA24 turbocharged engine. The 2022 Subaru WRX performance sedan also comes with the new 2.4-liter engine.
Two Subaru models need the turbocharged engine upgrade, and customers would like Subaru of America to offer it, but they likely won't get them anytime soon.
2023 Subaru Forester
The 2023 Subaru Forester will be announced soon and would benefit from the 2.4-liter turbocharged engine. Sales of the Forester have slipped more than any all-wheel-drive model in the lineup, and it needs a boost to create new excitement for the compact SUV.
Subaru Corporation will not likely upgrade the 2023 Forester with the 2.4-liter turbocharged engine but could wait until the 2024 Forester gets a complete remodel. The rugged 2024 Forester Wilderness would be the ideal trim level to get the upgrade giving it more power to carry additional gear and equipment for active customers.
The 2.4-liter turbocharged engine has 78 more horsepower than the 2022 Forester's 182 horsepower 2.5-liter engine and would have made a significant difference. For the 2022 Forester Wilderness to be the best model Subaru could have offered; the 2.4-liter turbo engine is needed.
2024 Subaru Crosstrek
The 2024 Subaru Crosstrek should get a complete remodel with Subaru's new timeline, and there will be significant changes coming, but will they be enough?
Subaru updated the refreshed 2020 Crosstrek subcompact SUV with the 2.5-liter engine, making a significant difference in horsepower (30-hp). Customers responded by buying record numbers of the Crosstrek Sport and Limited trim levels.
The 2024 Subaru Crosstrek will get the new Wilderness trim level sometime next year. The refreshed 2023 Legacy Sport now comes standard with Subaru's FA24 2.4-liter turbocharged engine, which was only offered with a 2.5-liter naturally-aspirated (non-turbo) engine before. The Crosstrek Wilderness would be another trim level benefiting most to get the 2.4-liter turbocharged engine upgrade giving it additional power to carry gear and camping equipment for active customers.
Will the 2024 Subaru Crosstrek Sport get the turbo?
The 2022 Subaru Crosstrek is selling in near-record numbers, and there's no reason for Subaru to change the subcompact SUV's 2.0-liter or 2.5-liter engines. If it isn't broken, Subaru will hesitate to make significant engine changes. Don't look for Subaru Corporation or Subaru of America to change Crosstrek's two engine options.

Absolutely. The 2.5 is a dog
Absolutely. The 2.5 is a dog and especially in mountainous areas where they are sold it's worse. I just don't think people who buy foresters are interested in spending more money for a faster car. They want reliable cars that do great in snow or rougher roads. Personally I can't stand the 2.5 and bought the last year the Forester had a turbo in the US. Btw, the author did a sloppy job and didn't research if Forester is sold with turbo outside of the US. I believe it is w a smaller engine.

Subaru , unless U add a turbo charger for the Forrester & Outback U will loose more market share . Please re think for the 2023 models .
