The new 2015 Subaru Outback wagon will launch in the UK on April 1. No joke.
The 2015 Subaru Outback makes its dealer launch in the UK with two models U.S. buyers wish they had. The Outback SUV-alternative wagon celebrates 20 years in the UK and consumers there get two Outback variants that you won’t see in the U.S. market. Like the U.S., the 2015 Outback launches in the UK with two engines, but UK buyers can get the new Outback with a diesel engine.
Two engines for the UK market
There are two engines available in the UK, a pair of four cylinder Boxer powerplants. UK buyers can choose between a 2.0-liter turbo-diesel, producing 150 PS and 350 Nm torque, or a naturally aspirated 2.5-liter gas unit, with 175 PS and 235 Nm torque. The U.S. market gets the 2.5-liter and a larger 3.6-liter 6-cylinder engine.
Two available transmissions
The UK also gets a 6-speed manual gearbox coupled with the turbo diesel engine. The U.S. market doesn’t get a manual transmission on any of its Outback variants. In the UK, diesel engines will be offered with either a six-speed manual transmission or Subaru’s Lineartronic (CVT) transmission; the 2.5-liter gas model is sold exclusively with Lineartronic.

Two trim levels: SE and SE Premium
There are two trim levels available on the Outback for UK buyers, SE and SE Premium. SE comes standard with automatic LED headlamps and headlamp washers, cruise control, Active Torque Vectoring, 17-inch alloy wheels, heated front seats, power-adjustable driver’s seat and privacy glass, as well as a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, incorporating satellite navigation, audio, smartphone connectivity and a rear view parking camera.
Gas powered SE models also feature an emissions-reducing start-stop system and Subaru Intelligent Drive, which allows drivers to select different engine modes according to road conditions for improved economy and performance. SE Premium models add a sunroof, keyless entry and push-button start, 18-inch alloy wheels, leather seats and a powered rear tailgate for added functionality.
U.S. consumers wish they could get their hands on a turbo diesel Outback and a 6-speed manual gearbox model. The new fifth generation 2015 Subaru Outback comes with both in the UK and makes its dealer launch on April 1, 2015. No fooling.
