The 2017 Subaru Outback has added an award to the trophy case, winning it from recreational vehicle magazine OzRoamer. Why does the “wild” Outback 2.0L turbo diesel get the nod?

The 2017 Subaru Outback 2.0D is a bit wild, and it adds another award to the trophy case. In the highly-competitive all-wheel-drive SUV segment, the 2017 Subaru Outback 2.0D Premium was named AWD SUV ($45,000-$60,000 price range), in OzRoamer’s annual Car of the Year (COTY) awards. The Outback 2.0 diesel variant is sold in Australia where it gets a debut win from the publisher down under. OzRoamer focuses on the full range of recreational vehicles, travel and touring products, and services.

Rob Fraser, Editor of Oz Roamer and www.ozroamer.com.au, said, “Subaru design has found its way again with subtle style beyond its price tag. Subaru’s quiet achiever, packed with features and subtle styling, the Outback regains its place as class leader. In a highly competitive market segment, the Outback leads the pack.”

The 2.0-liter diesel isn’t as tame as the standard gas model

Australia’s Subaru Outback 2.0D is a little wilder than the standard gas model. It’s powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged diesel boxer engine. Subaru AU says you can go 1000km (621 miles) on a single tank (60L) of fuel. The diesel engine also has more torque than the gasoline model, making it ideal for pulling a small boat or motorcycle trailer, and getting into the wild outback regions down under.

The 2017 Subaru 2.0D beats an impressive field of competitors to score the AWD SUV ($45,000-$60,000 price range), in OzRoamer’s annual COTY awards. It went up against Australian-spec vehicles like the Honda CRV VTI-L, Hyundai Tuscon Highlander 2.0R CRDi, Kia Sportage Platinum 2.0R CRDi, Jeep Cherokee Limited 0L I-4 Td and the Mazda CX5 GT 2.2 DTD.

The SUV-alternative Outback is appealing to a wider audience than ever before. It’s bigger than a traditional wagon like the VW Golf SportWagen. It has abundant cargo capacity, a higher ground clearance for “wild” off-road excursions and it has Subaru’s Symmetrical all-wheel-drive system for all-weather capability. The Outback also comes with more luxury than ever before.

The wilder 2017 Subaru Outback 2.0L turbo-diesel Premium wagon beats an impressive field of competitors and gets the nod in OzRoamer’s annual Car of the Year awards for its off-road all-wheel-drive capability, functional design, and abundant features. OzRoamer says, “Do yourself a favor, take the Outback 2.0D for a drive, it’s well worth it.”
