The 2024 Subaru Crosstrek arrives next year but will miss a key feature that customers want. Why do seven mainstream car brands offer a head-up display but not Subaru?
Subaru Corporation is bringing more safety features to the next-generation 2024 Crosstrek, but it won't have an Active Driving Display. The all-new subcompact SUV comes with a new exterior design, upgrades to the interior, improved driving dynamics, and new safety upgrades.
Still, the next-generation Crosstrek doesn't offer a head-up display (HUD) system that projects information onto the windshield. What was once exclusively available in luxury vehicles and head-up displays now come standard on some mainstream brand cars. Hyundai, Mazda, and Toyota offer head-up displays (HUD) like the one in the latest Toyota Prius.
It's a great convenience feature and offers another level of safety for drivers to keep their eyes on the road. So far, Subaru hasn't offered it on any new model.
Why is a head-up display a critical feature?
A head-up display is more than a luxury feature. It's a needed safety feature because it allows the driver to keep both eyes on the road by directly putting essential information in the driver's sight. Many automakers like Mazda and Hyundai now offer a head-up display on lower trims, and you don't have to buy a luxury car. It's the one feature Subaru should offer on all its SUVs.
Which mainstream automakers offer a HUD?
A report from Kelley Blue Book says some mainstream brands offer models with a HUD. Mini offers it in all of its models. Among Mazda models, only the MX-5 Miata doesn't provide a HUD. Toyota offers it in 10 models. Chevrolet, GMC, Kia, and Hyundai offer a HUD in at least four models each. Jeep has three HUD-equipped models, while Nissan has two. Subaru does not provide any models with a head-up display.
The new Crosstrek comes with the latest EyeSight safety technology
The 2024 Crosstrek will feature the next-generation EyeSight driver assist safety system. Crosstrek comes with a new digital multi-view monitor that uses four cameras to create a 360-degree, 3D top-down view, improving visibility on all sides of the vehicle. Larger and more detailed images are seen through a new center information display.
Crosstrek features a new stereo camera unit nearly doubling the angle view compared with the previous generation model. The unit enables the recognition of objects at wider angles and farther distances. The switch to a windshield-mounted installation and the addition of a lens hood will prevent accidental contact with the camera lens.
Like the 2023 Subaru Outback, the new Crosstrek features a new wide-angle mono camera enabling recognition of motorcycles and pedestrians at an even wider angle when traveling at low speeds. Subaru says it can initiate pre-collision braking "in an even wider range of situations and provides the best EyeSight performance ever."
The electric brake booster upgrades improve pre-collision braking response. Subaru says, "this enhances responsiveness in dangerous situations, such as when bicycles dart into the road. The inclusion of all-speed adaptive cruise control enables a quick deceleration response when a car suddenly cuts into one's lane and in similar scenarios."
Unfortunately, Subaru doesn't offer a HUD on any vehicle in its lineup. The next-generation 2024 Subaru Crosstrek won't be provided with a HUD either.

I don't need a HUD. A 2.4T
I don't need a HUD. A 2.4T/6spd Crosstrek would be more appreciated. A Crosstrek Wilderness with selectable rear traction diff would be more appreciated (Triple X-Mode?). Subaru aftermarket hgh-clearance bumpers would be more appreciated. Aftermarket skidplates would be more appreciated too.
What I'm puzzled is the lack
What I'm puzzled is the lack of an Outback-like roofrack. It costs nearly nothing to implement and is a huge convenience.
