Subaru will introduce a new Global Platform in their entire lineup starting next year. Will Subaru put the 2.0-liter turbo engine the U.S. spec 2017 WRX STI?

Next year, Subaru will introduce a new modularized platform called the Subaru Global Platform (SGP) that will support every model starting with the 2017 Impreza compact to the WRX STI performance sedan. The U.S. spec 2017 Subaru WRX STI could be getting the 2.0-liter turbocharged boxer powerplant that is in the Japan-only WRX STI S207 that was introduced at the Tokyo Motor Show in October.

All Subaru models including the STI will be coming with improved safety, better driving dynamics and increased interior space with Subaru’s new global platform. Subaru kept the 2.5-liter turbo power plant in the U.S. spec STI and it could be on its way out. Like Subaru’s new-generation WRX, performance enthusiasts could see the 2.0-liter turbo engine in the U.S. spec WRX STI as soon as 2017 or 2018 model year performance sedans. It will get more hp than the current 2.5-liter powerplant

It would come with upgraded internals like the Japan-only WRX STI S207 that features exclusive STI engine and suspension upgrades and tuned to get a maximum power output to 328 PS (323hp). The high-output balanced 2.0-liter turbo engine gets internal upgrades from STI that include an exclusive engine control unit (ECU), twin scroll ball bearing turbocharger, performance muffler with lowered back pressure mated to an exclusive rear exhaust pipe and STI-designed strengthened silicon intake duct.

Subaru’s 2020 Vision Plan that calls for further expansion through 2020 which will include new products, improved engines, increased production and cost cutting. The 2017 or 2018 Subaru WRX STI will likely get a new, more powerful 2.0-liter turbocharged engine in the U.S. to replace the aging 2.5-liter powerplant. Stay tuned.

HI!
I don't know what Subaru going to do, because lancer evo x coming soon in 2017 with 475hp and now Ford Focus RS have 350hp. I have a 2016 WRX STI and I really like my car but definitely need more power.

I have a WRX. It's plenty power for me. But in the future a vast amount of companies are out there to reliably boost the FA's power and performance. Which can be said a few times over for the EJ power plant... so you certainly don't need to wait on Subaru. My gripe with the STi is not it's power; but it's SUV-like MPG. But then again, it's a truly dated motor. If the new STi isn't pushing 400hp-ish, then the question will beg, they waited this long for what?
