Why will Subaru not be bringing the two 2015 Subaru WRX STI GRC cars to Red Bull Global Rallycross Barbados?
Since Subaru has no chance of winning the driver title or the manufactures title in Global Rallycross 2015, Subaru Motorsports has decided not to enter the 2015 Subaru WRX STI in the Red Bull Global Rallycross event this weekend in Barbados. Subaru Rally Team USA has decided to enter one driver, Sverre Isachsen who will be driving last year’s 2014 STI car and Bucky Lasek will not be driving at the event.
SRT USA says Lasek will not attend the Barbados GRC event and he’s on location in Japan filming an upcoming “un-announced project” for the team. SRT USA will get both 2015 STI cars ready for the last event in Las Vegas and not ship them to Barbados for rounds 10 and 11 this weekend, October 3-4.

SRT USA said, “Sending the 2014 car came about after evaluating the logistical demands of shipping cars to Barbados mere hours after the completion of GRC Los Angeles earlier this month. The team decided it was more beneficial to fully prepare the 2015 cars and conduct another valuable test session in the USA prior to the GRC Las Vegas.”
SRT USA saw progress in the 2015 WRX STI GRC cars last month in LA and they want to continue the testing and development of the chassis. In LA last month, the two 2015 Subaru WRX STI’s were a 3rd fastest in qualifying for Lasek and Isachsen had a 4th overall finish in the Final. Subaru Motorsports has new things coming up for the 2015 STI for the final GRC event in Las Vegas next month.
Team owner Lance Smith says, “We have more testing planned this month and some important new developments.” Subaru Tecnica International stepped up their involvement with SRT USA and will continue to work on the 2015 Subaru WRX STI cars. GRC Barbados will have a new course layout and will feature the longest track in series history at 1.1208 miles long. Stay tuned.
