If you buy a 2019 Subaru Outback SUV/Crossover, Forester SUV or Crosstrek crossover, you will pay less to insure them than other all-wheel-drive compact cars. According to a recent study by Insure, the three Subaru models are in the top-20 least expensive cars to insure list. The 2019 Subaru Outback 2.5i finished third, the newly-remodeled 2019 Forester 2.5i comes in ninth and the second-generation 2019 Crosstrek finished in the 12th spot.

Insure.com pulled insurance quotes from six major insurance companies and averaged the premiums to find out what it costs to insure the car you may be thinking of buying. The Outback is Subaru’s number one selling car in the U.S. and it costs you $1,306 per year to insure. Forester, another popular all-wheel-drive for the brand comes in at $1,347/year. The compact Crosstrek crossover costs $1,353 per year to insure. Why is a Subaru cheaper to insure? They are loaded with safety features. They also come standard with all-wheel-drive making them safer on wet, icy and snowy roads.

2020 Subaru Outback

Subarus come standard with many advanced safety features which insurers pay close attention to. All new 2019 Forester models come standard with the brand’s EyeSight driver assist safety system which has been proven to reduce accidents. It uses a second set of eyes to see the car ahead and automatically stops the car if the driver does not react in time. EyeSight will be standard on all new 2020 Outback models and it’s available on Crosstrek.

2019 Subaru Forester

The Honda Odyssey LX is the least expensive car in America to insure at $1,298 per year average, and the Jeep Wrangler Sport surprisingly is second on the list at $1,304. Insure says vehicles like the Outback and Forester are most often driven by families who tend to be safer drivers and “the car owner isn’t worried about exterior small scuffs and doesn’t make claims for minor items,” says Penny Gusner, Insure.com consumer analyst.

2019 Subaru Crosstrek

Customers looking for the least expensive cars to insure will find the 2019 Subaru Outback, 2019 Forester and 2019 Crosstrek on the top-twenty list. They are also the safest vehicles on the road.

Not sure who pays the $1300+ to insure their Subaru's with comprehensive/full coverage insurance. We pay $1100 per year "total" for comprehensive/full coverage on three Subaru's. Granted they are now older but the insurance never seems to go down from the time they are new. We have two Legacys (2.5i) and my Outback (3.6R). My 2016 Outback 3.6R Limited is actually the cheapest and the cost is $160.45 every 6-months. Same cost as when it was brand new. This is for "good insurance, (low deductibles/high liability $). I remember going from a Chrysler Town and Country Mini-Van to my first Outback Limited (2.5i) in 2010 my insurance dropped by 30% a year.

I'd like to know what insurance companies charge that low premiums. I use Hartford/AARP in Orlando FL, cost me around $1.9K, planning to move back to NYC, it will probably go up another $400.

We use Geico. Though our previous insurance company (Grange) was within $45 per "year" for exact same coverage/liability limits/deductibles . This is for a 2016 Outback Limited 3.6R, A 2012 Legacy Limited 2.5i, and a 2013 Legacy Premium 2.5i. This is for three drivers (myself, wife, and 26 yr old daughter. I have not had a ticket in 30 years, wife same, and daughter had one ticket for speeding a few years ago. The rates have never gone down as the cars have aged. Have had two claims in maybe 25 years (both no fault). The rates have gone down as my daughter became older, but only by maybe $120 a year :)
