You won’t see this exclusive Subaru WRX STI NBR Challenge Package on U.S. shores

Subaru commemorates the Nurburgring 24-hour victory with a special 2016 Subaru WRX STI NBR Challenge Package. Fans won’t see it in the U.S.

U.S. performance fans get left out again from getting this special edition 2016 Subaru WRX STI NBR Challenge Package Edition model. It’s only available in Japan and only 200 example are being offered in Subaru’s home country. The WRX STI S207 NBR Challenge Package follows in the tradition of other Japan-only limited edition STIs like the S206 launched a few years ago. US. fans can only look and not touch.

Subaru and Subaru Technica International (STI) are producing 200 examples of the 2016 Subaru WRX STI with the NBR Challenge Package to commemorate Subaru’s victory in the SP3T class in the 2015 Nurburgring 24-hr race. The special edition STI features an exclusive dry carbon rear spoiler and a special NBR ornament. Like the Special Edition S207 unveiled at the Tokyo Motor Show, the 2016 Subaru WRX STI NBR Challenge Package will come with exclusive STI engine and suspension tuning.

The limited edition STI will be powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged boxer powerplant and will be tuned to get a maximum power output to 328 PS (323hp). To bump up the horsepower, the 2.0-liter turbo engine gets internal upgrades from STI that include an exclusive engine control unit (ECU), twin scroll ball bearing turbocharger, performance muffler with lowered back pressure (featuring STI logo) mated to an exclusive rear exhaust pipe and STI-designed strengthened silicon intake duct.

It was a perfect finish for the 2015 WRX STI at the Nurburgring 24-hour race last May. The team claimed its third NBR 24 hour victory in its class and its finish in 18th position overall was the highest the team had ever achieved. STI will also offer a 100-unit limited run of the “NBR Challenge Package Yellow Edition” with a Sunrise Yellow exterior as a special edition model. The exclusive NBR Challenge Package Edition 2016 Subaru WRX STIs will only be offered in Japan. U.S., Australia and European performance fans get left out again.
