Popular YouTuber Zack from JerryRigEverything has released a new teardown video of Tesla's latest wireless charger. In his video, Zack showcases all the technologies that allowed Tesla's wireless charger to achieve a feat that Apple had called impossible and given up on.

Zack from JerryRigEverything, a popular YouTube channel that focuses on technology, has released a new video in which he does a teardown on Tesla's new $300 wireless charger. In the video, Zack shows the charger's internal components and explains how it works. The video has garnered a lot of attention from tech enthusiasts and Tesla fans alike.

Tesla's new mobile wireless charger is a game-changer in the world of wireless charging. Unlike other wireless chargers on the market, which require devices to be placed in a specific location in order to charge, Tesla's charger uses an innovative technique to enable charging of up to three devices at once, without any particular placement required. This makes it incredibly convenient for users who want to charge multiple devices at once, without having to worry about finding the right spot for each one.

The video begins with Zack unboxing the Tesla wireless charger and shows the sleek and stylish charger, which boasts a minimalist design and a premium feel. Zack shows the charger has a sturdy metal build and the charging mat is covered in Alcantara which is a durable suede-like fabric that Tesla uses in its more premium vehicles.

Zack also lists some of the specs of the charger which boasts a 65-watt, Cybertruck-styled black plastic charging brick. He then proceeds to take the device apart, using his trusty tools to remove the screws and pry open the casing carefully.

As he delves deeper into the charger's internals, Zack points out some of the key components that make it tick, including the numerous wireless charging coils, the circuit board, and the various sensors and connectors that allow it to communicate with other devices.

One of the most interesting things that Zack discovers during the teardown, and what is perhaps the most important secret behind how Tesla was able to build a wireless charger that can charge 3 devices simultaneously and without having to worry about the placement of the devices, is the presence of 30 copper charging coils slightly offset and stacked one over the other.

Zack notes that Tesla’s wireless charger allows the ease of placement while charging 3 different devices because it’s not made out of 3 but rather 30 charging coils all built into one device.

Zack goes on to justify the charger’s rather hefty $300 price tag by pointing out that with the 30 copper coils, the device comes out to $10 per charging coil, which makes it more palatable. Zack also points out that the Tesla wireless charger can charge 3 devices at 15 watts each.

One of the most interesting comparisons that Zac from JerryRigEverything makes in his video is with Apple's failed AirPower wireless charger. The AirPower was supposed to be a revolutionary wireless charging pad that could charge multiple devices at once like the Tesla charger without having to worry about the placement of the devices, but it was ultimately canceled due to issues with overheating and other technical problems.

Zack notes that one of the main reasons for the AirPower's failure was its inability to manage heat effectively. The device generated a lot of excess heat during use, which caused it to malfunction and ultimately led to its cancellation.

Interestingly enough, Tesla’s wireless charger also did not appear to have any active cooling and only contained minimal thermal paste, however, Zack has opined Tesla was able to solve the heat issue most likely by using a part of the 30 charging copper coils themselves to transfer heat to the base plate.

This is certainly exciting for Tesla, and even though the Tesla wireless charger will most likely be a niche product that will not make any meaningful contribution to Tesla’s earnings, it’s still nice to see the EV maker flexing its technology prowess and showing Apple a thing or two about how things are done.

With Apple reportedly working on driverless vehicles, a wireless charger might just be the first of many instances where the tech giant will face off against the EV upstart. And we’ll be sure to keep you posted on the hopefully healthy competition.

So what do you think? Are you excited to learn Tesla was able to build a wireless charger that Apple couldn’t? Do you think this will be the first of a long rivalry between these two companies? Let me know your thoughts in the comments below.
