Tesla Cybertruck Frame Snaps in Half After Hitting a Pothole – $34,000 & 4 Months to Fix, but Owner Says “This is the Most Amazing Truck Ever”

Obviously, this owner is completely enamored with Tesla. Whistling Diesel didn't break the hitch, he broke off the whole rear frame with the hitch still attached. You don't make truck frames out of aluminum! It's not fixable, as it is not built as a body on frame design, like a normal pickup truck. It's built like a Honda Ridgeline or Ford Maverick, with the frame being part of the body. And the aluminum is more like stamped or cast, than forged or sheet. It's brittle. Steel has flexibility and memory that aluminum just don't have, which is why it snapped off instead of bent. And this guy's damage was mostly suspension, which is also weak (see Heavy D Sparks channel). I don't understand why people but these things. It has terrible rear window viewing, the stainless rusts, the suspension is prone to failure, the hitch can snap the rear frame off if you put more than 300lbs of weight on it (hitches are designed for 10% of the load on the tongue, for a safe and stable tow), and the steering is by wire (just wait for a software/hardware glitch that leaves your front wheels pointing somewhere other than where you commanded them). If I were to buy a battery electric truck, that wouldn't be it. There's better electric trucks out there, like the Silverado and the midsized R1T. There's a reason that CTs are getting "totaled" by water damage like crazy. People want out of their CTs, but resale is dropping like Russian soldiers. The supply is greater than demand, and prices are falling.

It is a great truck. Fun and smart. FSD is the best.

This is more of a display of how bad body shops rape warranty companies over the auspice of "safety". The only time is see more waste, overspending and over repair, is when watching the federal government work.

Obviously I haven't seen the truck, but a rear subframe and shocks probably would have fixed it, but the shop used this as an opportunity to do an insurance subsidized rebuild. I'll bet that service writer at the body shop or dealer got the biggest bonus of his career!

Any vehicle that breaks is frame by driving through a "pot hole" has issues.
Unless it's WAY overloaded or driving erratically it shouldn't break.
And warranty wouldn't cover for abuse.
This just tells us that know the industry that Tesla knows about a weakness in their vehicle and are trying to cover this up.
Tesla is not a automotive manufacturer, it's just a computer company that thinks it can ignor the rules and regulations that all other manufacturers must follow.
I've ridden in these and driven them, I'd never own one.
They say every village has an idiot, when you see a Cybertruck you've just found your villigaes idiot.

I had a friend who loved his Range Rover, but it was always in the shop. Finally, he upgraded to a new Range Rover. I asked him how much he liked it and he went on and on about how well it drove, how comfortable it was, how luxurious it was, and said it was the best SUV he’d ever had.

I said oh so its quality must be much better than the old one. He replied “yeah I guess so. It does leak in the rain and the radio and alarm stops working but other than that it’s been great!”

Are you sure you don't work for the main stream media? The author says the whole bill came to $34,013 including tax. Then, he decides that he desperately wants to compare that amount to a new Model 3. So he looks up the price of a new Model 3 which is $48,244 with tax (since we are including tax in the number that we are comparing to). Of course that is $14,000 more than the repair bill... that won't do... the narrative must be proven! Let's take off the taxes and not worry about comparing apples and oranges... Now we are down to $42,490. Dang it, $42,490 is still more than $34,013. I know.. lets include the government incentives... that should do it. Nope, that only gets us to $34,900... Ahh, nobody will care about the $887..I'll just say you can buy a brand new Model 3 for $34,000. Nobody will notice.

This guy is full of it because if the insurance did not pay for it and it was his negligence anyway that caused it because he lives on street and knew the pot hole was their.. these stupid ridiculous insurance claims are why hard working people like you and me are paying higher premiums ....the electric vehicles in general are a death trap waiting to happen just like the 4 teenagers in California last week. Had an accident and the vehicle caught on fire and the fire department could not put it out.. 3 of those died and the 4th is in hospital and may die...when an electric vehicle catches on fire the electronics shut down and that means the doors do not open...and it is a certain death..think of it like this ever heard of a molatov cocktail?? That is basically what your butt is riding over..and when it crashed it creates pressure in the tank that becomes unstable and blows up just like that molatov cocktail when it has a catalyst to ignite it when thrown same as the vehicle going down the road. I drove my mini cooper over a massive unmarked pothole (I measured a 9”drop) at 40 miles an hour. Bottomed out the car, blew out both tires on the right side, cracked a rim. Wanna know what didn’t happen? Cracking the frame. I guess my mini cooper is more “tough and capable” than the cybertrash.

Furthermore i absolutely would not have accepted this vehicle back and demanded a new one. Well, personally i wouldn't have bought this junk in the first place but in some alternate universe where I did, I would have demanded a full refund. This thing will forever have problems with all those manual repairs. It’s not like Tesla is known for great servicing. But as they say, a sucker is born everyday.
