Elon Musk just said he will present the path to a fully sustainable energy future for Earth at Investor Day, March 1st, 2023
The First Two Master Plans
Elon Musk just announced, via his Twitter account, that he will unveil Master Plan Part 3 at Investor Day on March 1st, 2023. He also says that, "The future is bright!" The big question is, what will Elon Musk talk about. I have a few ideas on what he will say.
First, you have to look at what the first two Master Plans talked about. Master Plan Part 1, unveiled on August 2nd, 2006, talked about getting into the market with an electric sports car, the original Tesla Roadster. Tesla had to get into the market with a great car at a high price because it hadn't reached economies of scale yet. To sum up the plan in Elon Musk's words:
* Build sports car
* Use that money to build an affordable car
* Use that money to build an even more affordable car
* While doing above, also provide zero emission electric power generation options
* Don't tell anyone
Later, Master Plan Part 2 was unveiled on July 20th, 2016 and talked about building a low volume car, which would be the Model S and then creating more affordable vehicles, which would be the Model Y and Model 3 - along with Tesla Energy and solar power starting to ramp. All of these have done very well. To sum up this plan:
* Create stunning solar roofs with seamlessly integrated battery storage
* Expand the electric vehicle product line to address all major segments
* Develop a self-driving capability that is 10X safer than manual via massive fleet learning
* Enable your car to make money for you when you aren't using it
This plan has mostly seen success. Tesla has increased its Energy division with the Megapack which is starting to gain traction at its Lathrop, California factory. There is an expensive and affordable sedan in the Model S and Model 3. There is an expensive and affordable SUV in the Model X and Model Y. And the Cybertruck is coming this year.
Tesla released the Tesla Semi which is addressing the trucking market, adding another category in the vehicle segment part of Master Plan Part 2. This will greatly reduce emissions and improve trucking - especially when FSD gets much better than a human at driving.
Tesla FSD is safe, but not quite 10X a human. Your car can't make money for you while you sleep yet, but it is enabled to do so, according to Elon Musk. It looks like Tesla will succeed at all of these, though the timing of FSD may be later than my predicted year of 2024.

Master Plan Part 3 - And Something Nobody Is Talking About
Tesla Master Plan part 3 is all about driving down costs and entering more affordable vehicle markets with huge amounts of mass production - not just mass production - enormous mass production - the machine that builds the machine. It's going to include an expansion of Tesla Energy so that Megapacks are all over the world providing backup power to the grid.
There will information about FSD given and the Robotaxi fleet, and how Tesla will want to have hundreds of millions of Robotaxi vehicles on the road, greatly reducing the cost of transport.
There will be information about addressing more vehicle segments, namely a compact car or the Model 2, a Tesla robo van, a Tesla bus, and the Tesla Bot. The compact vehicle and any vehicles like it may be built with two side castings like so:
The Model 2 will be half the cost of a Model 3 and be produced in half the time. It will be $20,000 and not $25,000 or $30,000. This will be Tesla's most important auto product. The bus and the van will also be important products, but they won't be produced in as large volume. The van will help those who have disabilities. The bus will provide cheap transport to large groups of people and eventually be autonomous.
The Tesla Bot will be the biggest part of Master Plan part 3. Right now, human labor is undefinable. Elon Musk will talk about and say, "What is the limit to human labor and the economy?" He will go over the vision of Tesla Bot to start doing dangerous, boring, and repetitive tasks.
In the future, Tesla Bot will be much needed due to an aging population. If civilization doesn't address the falling birth rates, there are going to be more older people than younger people and something is going to need to pick up the slack to care for the elderly.
In short, I think these 4 bullet points will be Master Plan Part 3:
* Address the remaining vehicle segments: compact, bus, van, and truck
* Flood the earth with solar roofs and battery storage to enable energy independence for all
* Create a fleet of hundreds of millions of Tesla vehicles that can drive themselves and greatly reduce transport cost while earning money for owners
* Enable Tesla Bot to solve human labor and address an aging population
* Bonus (Something nobody is talking about): Get humanity to a type 1 civilization
A type 1 civilization has all its energy needs met from its home star, and its planet has all the AI and energy it needs to be self-sustaining. It is a great achievement for any civilization.
By 2030, you'll be astonished where Tesla is with Master Plan Part 3.
What do you think will be in Master Plan Part 3?
