We see a video from Giga Berlin that shows Tesla's castings, which allow Tesla to make cars just like toy cars are made.
Tesla Castings
Tesla castings at Giga Berlin are being shown, and these castings replace over 70 different under body parts. This enables Tesla to produce cars just like a toy car - where they use single piece castings to quickly make the frame of the car.
Elon Musk has long said that Tesla's long term advantage will be manufacturing. When Maye Musk took a visit to Giga Berlin, she was shown many things and the castings Tesla makes were one of those.
These giant, steel, structural castings are made and are the same every time. Because there is a machine with a mold, there isn't any variation on the casting pieces, which will greatly reduce any errors that could occur.
The machinery in Giga Berlin is shown grabbing and hauling the castings around. They are inspected by Tesla workers still. This is one of the ways that Tesla is able to reduce their costs so much, and this helps Tesla lower the cost of its vehicles.

Idra and the Giga Press
Toy cars are made similarly to this. If you listen to Elon Musk, you can see that he has a vision for Tesla to make cars this way. This is what will allow Tesla to be a mass producer of vehicles at an eventual 20 million per year run rate.
Each casting has taken about 1 to 2 minutes to make, although, Tesla is likely doing things today to reduce these times, along with Idra making improvements to their Giga Press.
One of the things I think about is will there be a way to do this even faster beyond the Idra Giga Press? Is there some technology that will improve even upon this. Perhaps some device that allows the liquid material to be poured, and multiple molds are able to be done at the same time.
What do you think of these die castings from Tesla? Will Tesla be able to reach 20 million vehicles per year using this technology?
