Tesla Cybertruck Reservation Holders Will Need to Pay $1,000 In A Non-Refundable Early Access Deposit In Order To Take Delivery

Tesla has added another condition for Cybertruck reservation holders - they must pay an additional $1,000 as a non-refundable early deposit in order to take delivery of their vehicle.

Tesla Cybertruck: $1,000 Early Deposit Required

Tesla is requiring a $1,000 early deposit for those who wish to take delivery of their Cybertruck. This is in addition to the $100 or $250 early deposit that those reservation holders may have already paid.

It's important to note that the Cybertruck reservation holder only has to pay this $1,000 upon being asked to take delivery of their Cybertruck by Tesla and not before.

Tesla will always contact someone who has ordered any Tesla letting them know it's time to take delivery or configure their vehicle in the case of the Cybertruck.

For those who already want to buy the Cybertruck, this won't be a problem. They are eagerly waiting to get their Cybertruck as soon as possible.

However, for those who are on the fence, it may end up causing them to cancel their order. I don't think this is a bad thing, as it will weed out those in the backlog who aren't really going to order.

Tesla may need to keep this $1,000 non-refundable early deposit until the Cybertruck reaches volume production, at which time, I think it should go back to a $250 non-refundable early deposit.

Tesla Cybertruck - Ramping To Volume Production

Yesterday, the Optimus Bot 2.0 took the spotlight away from the Cybertruck briefly with an unveiling that showed it doing squats, tactile hand sensors, human-like walking, and the ability to manipulate delicate objects like eggs without breaking them.

The Tesla Cybertruck has been one of Tesla's most successful free marketing campaigns (in addition to it being an actual product). Many celebrities have been seen with it, generating millions of views, such as Serena Williams and Alexis Cohanian.

Ramping to volume production (250,000 a year), is going to take 12 to 18 months, according to Elon Musk. Fortunately for Tesla, any variant under $80,000 is going to fully qualify for the U.S. $7,500 EV tax credit. This tax credit was recently removed after 2023 for the Model 3 RWD and Model 3 Long Range.

Tesla should also work to eventually lower the prices on these vehicles to make them more affordable. Right now, Cybertruck "Foundation Series" vehicles cost between $100,000 and $120,000.

Let's hope that Tesla can lower the costs and get the Cybertruck in the hands of only those who truly want it and will use it.
