Car2Go, one of the world's largest car-sharing services operated by Daimler has been primarily using the Smart ForTwo in North America. But that will be changing in the near future.
This week, Car2Go announced that the Mercedes-Benz CLA and GLA will be available to members in Austin, Texas; Portland, Oregon.; Seattle, Washington; and the Washington, D.C. area right now. Members in other cities in the U.S. and Canada will see the CLA and GLA arrive later this year.
“At Mercedes-Benz we see the four key pillars for future mobility as connectivity, autonomous driving,
carsharing, and electrification. Today we take another step toward that future by adding the new Mercedes-Benz CLA and GLA to car2go’s North American fleet. car2go is already the most popular carsharing service in the world. Now it will be even more attractive to small groups of friends and families who want to conveniently travel around cities in style, safety, and comfort,” said Dieter Zetsche, CEO of Daimler AG and Head of Mercedes-Benz Cars in a statement.
It is unknown how many Mercedes-Benz vehicles will be added to Car2Go fleet, but Car2Go spokesman Mike Silverman tells Automotive News (Subscription Required) that the majority of the North American fleet will be made up of Mercedes-Benzes by the end of the year. This is due to Car2Go replacing many of the older Smart ForTwos that exclusively made up the North American fleet.
