The Detroit Auto Show was the coming out party for the Genesis brand with the introductions of the G80 and G90. For New York, the brand decided it was time to show off a concept.
This is the Genesis New York Concept. We know, not the most original name. But we have to admit this might take the cake for 'Best of Show' at New York.
The New York Concept is our first real look at the brand's ‘Athletic Elegance’ design language. The looks bears some resemblance to the Vision G concept shown last year. Up front is a large, hexagonal grille and narrow headlights. A long, flowing hood paired with a short overhang gives the concept an aggressive look. Move inside and you're greeted with a curved, 21-inch 4K touchscreen that can be controlled with gestures. Leather-wrapped seats provide seating for four people.
Power comes from a hybrid system. The only details Genesis is revealing about the hybrid system is that a turbocharged, direct-injected four-cylinder and eight-speed automatic are part of the system. The engine is rated at 245 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque.
This concept gives us a possible sneak peek into a production model called the G70 which is expected to arrive before 2020. This model will compete against the likes of the Audi A4, BMW 3-Series, Cadillac ATS, Lexus IS, and Mercedes-Benz C-Class. Don't be surprised if some of the New York Concept's design comes to the G70.
