The last thing an automaker wants when launching an important vehicle is to hit a snag that causes a launch delay. Unfortunately, that is what happened to Mercedes-Benz.
Earlier this week, we reported that the German luxury brand had to push back the launch of the 2017 E-Class from June to July because they were waiting on certifications. At the time, Mercedes wasn't saying what certifications they were waiting on, but we're guessing it had to deal with either the EPA, CARB, or both.
Now, Mercedes-Benz has gotten the certifications and is shipping the new E-Class to dealers. Rob Moran, a Mercedes-Benz spokesman told Automotive News that dealers should start expecting deliveries this week and be able to start selling them this weekend.
“We are excited that the cars are launching sooner than our planned late July launch,” said Moran in an email.
Moran was vague as to why the delay happened in the first place. But reading between the lines of his response tells us it was something with EPA, CARB, or both.
“I can only offer that regulatory agencies around the world are taking a closer look at the certification process for all new vehicles which can impact launch timelines,” said Moran.
