Move over CLA, there's a new cheap Mercedes-Benz model in town. The price? $25,995.
Alright, we should explain this model is a stripped down version of the Metris van called the Metris Worker. This is the follow-up to the Sprinter Worker we saw in Chicago. Like the Sprinter, the Metris Worker is barebones in terms of equipment with a bare-metal finish for the floor, Bluetooth, a 3.5mm aux input, a USB port, and five-speaker audio system. But you can equip the Metris Worker with various packages that add such items as blind-spot monitoring, backup camera, heated and adjustable outside mirrors, and cruise control.
But for buyers of these vehicles, they're more concerned about how cargo a van can hold. This is where the Metris Worker shines. Open up the rear doors and you're greeted with 186 cubic feet of space. Payload stands at 2,500 pounds. As for towing, the Metris Work is rated at 5,000 pounds.
Power comes from a turbocharged 2.0L four-cylinder with 208 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. The only transmission on offer is a seven-speed automatic. One thing that will impress buyers is the Metris having 15,000-mile service intervals. This means the vans can spend more time working and not being serviced at the dealer.
When the Metris Worker goes on sale later this year, it will be offered in a cargo van and seven-seat passenger van.
"Based on the excellent demand for our Sprinter WORKER model, we are excited to announce the expansion of our WORKER lineup to include the Metris WORKER Cargo and Passenger Vans. With a starting price of $25,995, the Metris WORKER Cargo offers tremendous value for small businesses and fleets alike in addition to providing superior cargo volume, payload capacities and high levels of safety," said Bernie Glaser, Head of the Mercedes-Benz USA Vans Division in a statement.
