When Hyundai revealed the Avante Sport for the Korean market earlier this year, we knew it wouldn't be too long before we saw the same model here in the U.S., wearing the Elantra nameplate. That day has finally come.
Hyundai has pulled the curtain back on the 2017 Elantra Sport.
What makes the Sport different from other Elantras?
It begins under the hood where Hyundai has dropped in a turbocharged 1.6L four-cylinder that is capable of producing “more than” 200 horsepower and 190 pound-feet of torque. The engine can be paired with either a six-speed manual or a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. The Sport also swaps the rear torsion beam setup for a multilink independent suspension that will improve the handling characteristics.
Any other changes to be aware of?
The Elantra Sport's exterior features a new body kit, blacked-out grille, and a set of twenty-inch aluminum wheels. A set of sport seats with red stitching and a flat-bottom steering wheel are the extent of the changes inside.
When will I be able to pick up one up and for how much?
Hyundai says the Elantra Sport will go on sale in the fourth quarter of this year. Pricing will be announced at a later time.
