Hyundai has some ambitious plans for their new luxury sub-brand when it comes to performance.
Like most of its competitors, Genesis will have its own set of performance-oriented models that will be done by the new N Performance division. Australian automotive outlet CarAdvice had the chance to speak with Albert Biermann, performance chief at Hyundai. Biermann said that performance models for either Hyundai or Genesis will be branded as N.
“N is a sub-brand and with N high-performance cars we work for both brands – so you have to be ready for N versions for Hyundai and for Genesis,” said Biermann.
It was expected that N would only be reserved for vehicles under the Hyundai banner. But with this announcement, it seems N has their eyes set on bigger things.
Biermann went to say N models will not be vehicles with hot looks and lukewarm performance, but “full package – real racetrack-going high-performance cars”, and it will not be just one Genesis vehicle that gets the N treatment.
What are the possible vehicles?
It would be safe to assume the G90 flagship sedan is not going to be getting N performance version. The G80 (formally known as the Hyundai Genesis) might have a shot as it could give the likes of the BMW M5, Cadillac CTS-V, and the next Mercedes-AMG E-Class. The most likely candidate is the upcoming G70 that will compete with the likes of the BMW 3-Series and Audi A4. It is expected that Genesis will show a concept version of the G70 sometime this year.
