How do you bring in more supercar buyers to your brand?

Lamborghini believes the answer is to build on the success of the Huracán. Stephan Winkelmann, Lamborghini's chief executive tells Autocar that the automaker is considering introducing more variants of the Huracán to build on the popularity of it.

“It could be more than five derivatives over the life cycle. We have a lot of ideas that are already planned, but the more we think, the more things are coming up; it’s a matter also of whether we can allow ourselves to do it because we also have to consider investment, production capacity and complexity," said Winkelmann.

Now Lamborghini can do this because the Huracán is said to be the most 'flexible' model year and was engineered with the mindset of additional variants.

“Unlike the Gallardo, where our derivative strategy came after the car was developed, and was also mainly in the second part of the life cycle, with the Huracán we initiated all those things during the development of the base car,” Winkelmann explained.

What are the possible variants?

Autocar believes the next version is a spyder version of the Huracán LP580-2 that debuted at the LA Auto Show last month. Winkelman also said that a more hardcore version of Huracán is being worked on.

“For sure there will be a car that is going in the direction of ‘lighter’ and ‘faster’. We are really looking at a lot of approaches," said Winkelmann.
