Automakers are trying various tricks to help eek out the last drop of fuel. One example is engine start-stop tech that turns the engine off when at a stop, before restarting when you start moving. It's nice when it works. When it doesn't, that brings up some major issues.
Mercedes-Benz has issued a recall for 5,826 GLE450 AMG Coupes for having faulty engine management software that only causes the stop part of the system to work. A driver might think the system is working as normal except when they let go of the brake and the car doesn't start back up. This issue increases the chances of an accident at a busy intersection.
The recall is expected to begin this month with dealers updating the engine software. If you have any questions, you are asked to call Mercedes-Benz customer service at 1-800-367-6372.
