We have been reporting on a rumored SUV for Mercedes-Maybach during the past few months. It would be using the platform for the next-generation GLS. Well, Mercedes-Maybach has announced an SUV, but it isn't a GLS-based model.
Meet the Mercedes-Maybach G650 Landaulet which will be debuting at the Geneva Motor show next month. Landaulet if you are wondering is a vehicle (typically a sedan) that can provide rear seat passengers an open-air experience thanks to part of the roof folding.
Compared to the standard G-Class, the G650 Landaulet rides on a wheelbase that has been stretched 22.7-inches. This allows Mercedes-Maybach to provide back seat passengers some special accommodations. It begins with individual massage and reclining seats from the S-Class sedan. A glass partition between the front and rear seats can be raised or lowered to provide privacy. Other luxury items include temperature controlled cupholders, two 10-inch screens, and folding tables.
Mercedes borrowed some parts from the G500 4x4² for the G650 Landaulet's running gear including a set of portal axles and three locking differentials. Power comes from a 6.0L twin-turbocharged V12 producing 621 horsepower and 738 pound-feet of torque.
Mercedes will only be building 99 G650 Landaulet that will be delivered to buyers this fall. No word on pricing at the moment.
