Most of the ultra luxury manufacturers are getting into the SUV game as buyers want them. It should not come as a surprise that Mercedes-Maybach is reportedly working on one.
Autocar has learned from senior Mercedes-Benz officials that work is progressing on an SUV. Like the Mercedes-Maybach S600, the SUV will be using the bones of the next-generation GLS SUV. The Maybach version will sport different design touches pulled from the Maybach 6 Coupe concept shown at Pebble Beach last summer.
Details about the interior are being kept under lock and key, but Autocar believes the materials used will be a step above Mercedes' Designo line A source tells the magazine the SUV will also get a unique instrument cluster. Also in the cards is a long-wheelbase version to compete with the likes of Range Rover SVAutobiography LWB.
Power will come from Mercedes' 4.0L twin-turbo V8 engine paired up with a nine-speed automatic and 4Matic all-wheel drive. There is a possibility of a 6.0L twin-turbo V12 being added as well.
Autocar says the Maybach SUV will launch in 2019.
