The New England Motor Press Association every year holds their Ragtop Ramble where members drive the latest crop of convertibles through the New England landscape and figure out which ones stand out. Recently, NEMPA announced their favorites from the ramble.
Taking home the 'Best Luxury Convertible' award was the 2017 Mercedes-Benz SL63 AMG. The iconic German roadster recently underwent a refresh to fix one of the biggest complaints about the model, the awkward looks. Mercedes' designers tweaked the front with a new bumper, headlights, and lines for the hood. The improvements help make the 2017 SL look like a modern incarnation the SL Gullwing from the fifties.
Mercedes offers a wide range of engines for the SL. From a 3.0L biturbo V6 found in the SL450 to a monster 6.0L biturbo V12 in the AMG SL65, there will be an engine that will fit your needs. The one that stole the hearts of NEMPA members was the AMG SL63 review. With a 577 horsepower 5.5L biturbo V8, the SL63 rockets to 60 mph in 4 seconds and makes one of the sweetest exhaust notes to come out of a vehicle.
The team at WheelsTV produced a video talking about how the SL took home the award, which you can see here.
