Cadillac is replacing three of its current models with an all-new athletic-looking compact sedan. The CT5 is a little longer than the ATS and built for a smooth ride and great handling.
Cadillac is committed to building sedans even though many of the automakers are shifting toward SUVs and trucks. Cadillac unveiled its all-new 2020 CT5, with a slightly different profile and plenty of horsepower to keep pace with competitors like the BMW 3-Series, Lexus IS and Mercedes C-Class.
General Motors President Mark Reuss said on social media that “Refinement, comfort, and luxurious ride is brought back to Cadillac-- without compromising control and fun. Very much a place where you want to be, every time you open the door you remember that last time and smile.”
Designed to Compete with Semi-Autonomous-Driving Vehicles
The 2020 CT5 will be a global vehicle, which means it will be headed to China. It will also offer Super Cruise, Cadillac’s advanced semi-autonomous driving system. Super Cruise is described as “The world’s first true hands-free driver assistance feature for limited-access freeways.”
“The first-ever Cadillac CT5 showcases Cadillac’s unique expertise in crafting American luxury sedans,” said Steve Carlisle, Cadillac president. “Its details elevate every drive and reward the senses.”
Loaded with Technology and Luxury
The CT5 is a compact luxury sedan. It will be available with either the standard 2.0L 4-cylinder turbo engine or a 3.0L twin-turbo V6 that produces 335 horsepower. Both are paired with a ten-speed transmission. It will be available in either rear-wheel drive or all-wheel-drive.
“Cadillac is dedicated to building the world’s most exhilarating luxury sedans,” said Carlisle. “Every element of the CT5 is focused on delivering an unrivaled experience, from the 10-speed transmission to Cadillac’s Super Cruise technology. The expansion of Super Cruise to CT5 reinforces our commitment to bringing the most innovative technologies to our customers.”
The 2020 CT5 features a 10-inch-diagonal screen and a host of driver assist technology like Safety Alert Seat, Rear Camera Mirror, Surround Vision, Forward Collision Alert, Forward Pedestrian Braking and Parking Assist.
The New Shape of Cadillac
The CT5 is said to be inspired by the beautiful Escala concept. It has more of a fastback design and has an athletic and aggressive stance. It will be available in several trim levels, Luxury, Premium Luxury, Sport and a Platinum trim. The interior is said to be all upgraded materials, premium leather, polished wood and carbon fiber.
Cadillac stresses that the all-new CT5 will be ready for any and all road conditions and will be available with either 19-inch run-flat tires or 18-inch self-sealing tires. Either should allow the driver to keep traveling until it is convenient to have the tire repaired or replaced.
The all-new 2020 CT5 did not have an official reveal at the New York International Auto Show, instead it popped up on popular television shows like “Live with Kelly and Ryan”. The New York International Auto Show is typically where the auto companies try to prove to Wall Street that they are on the right track financially and able to compete in the marketplace. The Super Cruise technology is an improvement over virtually every other self-driving system, but Cadillac has been slow to roll it out. The release says it will be available on other Cadillac models starting in 2020.
The 2020 CT5 will be available later this year. Pricing and fuel economy will be released closer to the launch dates.
