Chevrolet's head of Performance, Jim Campbell, just tweeted followers "Project car? RestoMod? Check out @ChevroletPerf for crate engines, transmissions, controllers, cams, heads & more." As he invites people to check out their Black Friday offers, there is another question. Which hot Camaro or Chevelle do you prefer?
Jim Campbell’s tweet invites followers to check out their Black Friday deals on crate engines and other performance parts to spiff up your RestoMod or performance car. The real question however is which incredible ride would you prefer? The choices are both magnificent.
The 1969 Chevrolet Chevelle Slammer concept is a restorer’s dream. It highlights what you can buy in a crate engine as you bring your favorite car back to life. “The direct-injected LT376/535 is the newest and one of the most technologically advanced crate engines ever from Chevrolet Performance,” said Jim Campbell, GM U.S. vice president of Performance Vehicles and Motorsports. “It is based on the LT1 engine found in the Corvette Stingray and Camaro SS, but with a unique camshaft-and-heads package to help it produce 535 horsepower — 75 horsepower more than the LT1 in the Stingray.”
The Chevelle’s crate engine is paired with Chevrolet’s new SuperMatic 4L75-E electronically controlled four-speed automatic transmission, featuring a torque capacity of 650 lb.-ft. the idea is that they give you the keys to huge horsepower and the specific transmission to control it.
The exterior is a dramatic black to highlight the menacing stance and the oversized 20” wheels in back. The interior is a blazing adrenaline red. Everything from the gauges to the seats is emphasized in red.
The 2017 Chevrolet Camaro Slammer concept is equally spectacular. Again the focus is on the menacing stance and the dramatic black paint and finish. The tri-coat process includes sparkles and flakes in the paint to make the finish stand out. Much like the Chevelle Slammer, the interior is all adrenaline red. The bold color accentuates the macho style.
Surprisingly, the 2017 Camaro Slammer has less horsepower than the Chevelle. “ The Camaro Slammer’s power comes from the LT1 6.2L V-8 rated at 455 horsepower and 455 lb.-ft. of torque, matched with the six-speed manual transmission with Active Rev Match.”
While you are checking out Chevy’s Black Friday specials, which include 20% off on some dealer models already in stock, let us know which you prefer, the 1969 Chevrolet Chevelle Slammer or the 2017 Chevrolet Camaro Slammer? What incredible choices to have!
