After a superb year growing its market share in North America, GMC is venturing into China, Australia and New Zealand.

GMC is growing its global brand by taking one of its best-known vehicles into China. Starting this year, GMC will begin selling its iconic 2024 GMC Yukon full-size SUV in China. GMC hopes to expand into Australia and New Zealand in 2025. The expansion comes after GMC marked one of its best years in modern history. GMC had its best sales year since 2017 in the U.S. GMC is a familiar name in the U.S., Canada and Mexico. The brand also sells in the Middle East and started selling GMC Sierra pickups in South Korea in 2023.

“GMC is in the most exciting era in its history as we expect to grow competitively in our home market while venturing into new ones,” said Duncan Aldred, global vice president, Buick and GMC. “We’re forging our future as a premium truck and SUV brand and our success shows our customers around the world are just as excited as we are for the road ahead.”

Good News for GMC Workers

The expansion is great news for the workers who build the GMC Yukon. For now, the vehicles will be supplied by the Arlington Assembly Plant in Arlington, Texas. The GMC Yukon and Yukon XL are built there as well as the Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban.

GMC Sales Momentum On a
Roll

GMC finished 2023 in the U.S. with a 6.5 percent increase in retail sales. It was GMC’s best overall sales performance since 2017. The GMC Sierra Light Duty and Heavy-Duty trucks saw their best combined year of sales on record. It was the brand’s  sixth consecutive year of growing its market share. GMC’s 2023 retail sales were up 10 percent in Canada, 15 percent in the Middle East, and up 14.4 percent in Mexico.

In 2024, GMC celebrates the 25th anniversary of the Denali brand and the continued evolution of its SUV lineup, led by the all-new 2024 GMC Acadia.
