Jeep is revealing the two new special-edition 4xe models as it accelerates its push toward electrification. The models, a 2023 Grand Cherokee 30th Anniversary 4xe and a 2023 Jeep Wrangler Willys 4xe are on display at the 2022 North American International Auto Show, in Detroit, Michigan.
Jeep is celebrating 30 years of its hugely popular Grand Cherokee with the reveal of its 2023 Grand Cherokee 4xe 30th Anniversary Edition at the 2022 North American International Auto Show. The first ever Grand Cherokee made its big debut at the same show, in Detroit, by crashing through the front window of the convention center. Thirty years later, the family vehicle has launched a series of SUVs and has an electrified version.
“When the original Jeep Grand Cherokee debuted in 1992 by famously crashing through the glass at Cobo Hall, it literally shattered expectations and redefined what a premium SUV could be,” said Jim Morrison, senior vice president and head of Jeep brand North America. “Three decades later and more than 7 million Grand Cherokees sold, the most awarded SUV ever is still forging new ground with the electrified plug-in-hybrid 4xe model. The Grand Cherokee 4xe 30th Anniversary edition underscores how far the Grand Cherokee has come and is yet another example of the Jeep brand’s goal to be the electrification leader in SUVs.”
2023 Grand Cherokee 4xe 30th Anniversary Edition
The 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe 30th Anniversary special edition is the most technologically advanced and 4x4-capable Jeep Grand Cherokee yet, delivering 25 miles of all-electric range and 56 miles per gallon equivalent (MPGe) from a plug-in hybrid system that delivers 375 hp and 470 lb.-ft. of torque and max towing of 6,000 lbs. Jeep has found that most drivers save the all-electric mode to use out on the trails, because of the instantaneous torque.
The 30th Anniversary special edition features a blacked-out exterior with a modified front fascia, signature blue tow hooks, dual exhaust, dual pane sunroof, new 20-inch black wheels, special-edition badging and body-color rear fascia and wheel flares.
Inside, the Anniversary edition features black leather seats, ventilated front seats, wireless charging pad, nine-speaker Alpine audio system and Uconnect 5 with a 10.1-inch touchscreen, plus navigation with 3D graphics. Other standard features include front/rear park assist, Intersection Collision Assist, passive entry, rain-sensing windshield wipers, digital rearview mirror and 360-degree surround view camera system.
The 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe 30th Anniversary edition carries a U.S. manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP) of $4,700 for the package. Orders for the 30th Anniversary edition open later this year. Vehicles should begin arriving to Jeep dealers by early 2023.
The Jeep Wrangler 4xe is already the best-selling plug-in hybrid in America. Now it is adding a new Willys 4xe model. We saw an concept version of this at the 56th Annual Moab Easter Jeep Safari. The heritage-inspired Willys 4xe blends a number of vintage looking styling cues with modern technology to create a retro-looking off-roader.
“Jeep Wrangler 4xe customers looking for the ultimate combination of capability and electrification, with a vintage twist, can now have it in the 2023 Jeep Wrangler Willys 4xe,” said Morrison. “The debut of the new heritage-inspired 2023 Wrangler Willys 4xe pairs 49 MPGe, 470 lb.-ft. of torque with unmatched Jeep capability, a 2.72:1 4WD low range ratio, heavy-duty Dana 44 axles and a new entry price point to the 2023 model year Wrangler 4xe lineup, which continues to be the best-selling plug-in hybrid in America.”
