The 2018 Chevrolet Equinox Diesel will get a segment leading 39 MPG. That's not the only reason to consider the redesigned family SUV.
Chevrolet has some refreshing news after all of the scandals surrounding diesel engines. Not only is the automaker sticking with the diesel engine, but the 2018 Chevrolet Equinox Diesel will get a segment leading 39 mpg. The EPA has already certified the Equinox Diesel for 39 mpg on the highway (FWD model) with the available 1.6L turbo-diesel engine.
Chevy Equinox Is a Segment Leader
The 39 mpg is a strong start for the newly redesigned 2018 Chevrolet Equinox. The new design is said to be leaner and more agile than previous generations. The new highway mileage numbers place the Equinox Diesel ahead of the 2017 Toyota RAV4 hybrid and Nissan Rogue hybrid. The 1.6L turbo-diesel is the third engine option for the new Equinox. According to Steve Majoros, Chevy’s marketing director for Crossovers, “Chevrolet continues to lead with technologies that offer customers more choice. Our three-engine turbo-charged Equinox lineup means we can provide drivers more options for the performance and efficiency they desire.”
Equinox has a longer fuel range
If you have a SUV filled with people asking “Are we there, yet?”, the 2018 Chevrolet Equinox Diesel will help you travel with fewer stops. The 39 mpg rating gives the Equinox Diesel a potential 577-mile range. Imagine being able to drive from Chicago to Memphis, Tennessee, or Boston to Richmond, Virginia, without having to stop for fuel.
Newly designed turbo-diesel
The 2018 Chevrolet Equinox is redesigned with the global markets in mind. Chevrolet plans to market the new Equinox in 115 markets worldwide. The new engine options reflect the automakers global view. All three of the engine choices are turbos, and according to Chevrolet, the 2018 Equinox will feature the first turbo-diesel available in the compact SUV market. The engine choices include a 1.5L turbo, a 2.0L turbo — matched with GM’s new nine-speed automatic transmission — and a 1.6L turbo-diesel. The diesel option is timed perfectly to take advantage of the buyers who are furious with Volkswagen after its diesel fiasco, but still love the cost effectiveness of a diesel. Europeans often prefer diesels which could be a huge advantage for Chevrolet.
The 2018 Chevrolet Equinox is 400 pounds lighter than previous models and just a few inches shorter. It appears to take many of its design cues from the Malibu, Cruze and Volt. It is leaner but actually has more cargo space than the older versions. Some of the added space may come from new rear seats that can be folded flat.
The 1.6L diesel kicks out 240 lb-ft of torque. The engine also features stop/start technology to optimize efficiency in stop-and-go driving and it is compatible with B20 bio-diesel fuel.
The 2018 Equinox Diesel will start at $31,435 and will be available this fall. The 2018 Chevrolet Equinox is on sale now, starting at $24,475.
